It's you

Oh, this was bad.

Not the food or the company, Angella could actually be nice and Sparckles just seemed to ignore her.

What was really bad was the blondie in front of Catra.

She hated to admit it, but Adora was just so warm and familiar, caring and dumb, but in a good way. Everything about her was good.
She was just so easy to like, which have always fucked up the brunette's mind.

When they were younger, Adora wasn't just her best friend, but also her worst rival. She loved her, but couldn't stop herself from hating her too anytime she won, or was praised or got a caress from Miss Weaver.
Everybody just recognised her perfection.
Everybody would try to be her friend, would like her, would love her.
And those same people would despise Catra and alienate her, reject her, leave her alone.

But then Adora would smile to the brunette, would hug her, would hold her hand, would read books to her, would kiss her goodnight and Catra's hate would melt away.
She seemed to heal any wound.

And as they grew up, Catra started to fall for her, harder every day, to the point of being wornout by holding back from crossing the lines.
The blonde never really expressed any thought about romantic interests, she just used to say that she didn't feel the need of it or didn't have time for a relationship.

Then the betrayal and the loneliness ran over Catra like a tsunami and her broken heart refused to bond again.
It felt like a rock in her chest.
She just didn't love for three years, at least tolerated those familiar faces and similar companions.
Nobody could be let in anymore, but Catra expected them to stay in her surroundings, people as Lonnie, Rojelio, Kyle, Scorpia and Entrapta.
In her little reign, inscribed within the boundaries of the school -and occasionally the neighbourhood- , they were privileged.

But Adora had a gift when it came to destroy Catra's defences.
It could have been because she was her first love, her first family, her first friend, but it was terrifying to fall so easily for her, again, in such little time.

It was bad and infuriating.

Yet, The blondie seemed to whisper to her fragile heart: she knew what to do and when to do it, she seemed to have mastered how to tame her mood shifts.

A part of Catra genuinely used to think that they could be soulmates and that for some unknown reason the universe had been so kind to let them meet at such an young age, so that they could face that cruel world side by side.

Maybe that's what hurt the most, the feeling of needing her, the thought of not being able to face all that shit without her.

Yet, somehow, she survived on her own...and what if Adora would have stolen all she had worked for? What if she ruined her again?  What if those so many intense emotions would have burned Catra more than how much her rage already managed to.

Still, that dumb and dangerous blondie seemed to be a warm sun in her life and she could have been her only chance to love, her forever soft spot.

Was she really? Was she really her only chance to love in her dark life? Someone who would have never wanted her with the same passion...

"You alright, Catra?" Adora asked her with a worried expression, bringing the brunette back to precence.
"Sorry, I spaced out...what are you taking about?" The Latina questioned.
"Oh, nothing important, we were just discussing about the gala for the end of the summer. Frosta, a friend of ours, is helping organising it since her family owns the location." The blonde explained.
"It's a very enjoyable event, one of my favorite." Angella commented.
"It's awful that you can't take part to it this year." Glimmer huffed.
"It's not a bid deal, darling...plus, you girls and Bow will have fun for me too." The woman said with a calm smile.
"Yes! Adora's first gala! It will be unforgettable!" The pink-haired girl exclaimed.
"Hope so..." she muttered shyly.
"What's up, princess? Scared of a bunch of rich snobs in overpaid dresses?" Catra asked with a smirk.
"Rich snobs?!" Glimmer repeated outraged.
"I'm not scared...just a little worried. I'm not the fanciest person, and after the last party at the academy..." the blonde admitted.
Even Angella couldn't hold back a giggle at that reference.
"What happened? Did you break a pyramid of glasses?" The brunette asked teasingly.
"Not really, I just-" she started, immediately interrupted by the pinky friend.
"She got drunk and started talking in Spanish out of nowhere!" Glimmer exclaimed, while Adora blushed furiously.
The outburst of Catra's laughter caught the Mayor and her daughter off guard.
"Tu rubia tonta! I can't believe it happened again!" She struggled to say.
"Obviously you knew she could speak Spanish..." Glimmer muttered annoyed.
"Again?" Angella questioned.
"Catra! Don't you dare!" The blonde warned, standing up and pointing her.
"¿Te preocupa que estropee tus pequeños secretos sucios, princesa?" The brunette asked smugly.
"Requerda, gatita: si bajo, te arrastraré conmigo!" Adora warned, her cheeks redder then ever.
"Bien, bombón , lo guardaré para otro momento." Catra said, raising her hands defensively.
"Well, girls, you really are good in speaking Spanish!" Angella said impressed.
"Why? Did you understand them? Am I the only one here who doesn't speak Spanish?" Glimmer asked upset.
"Oh no, dear, I only speak English, Italian, Russian and French...but they must be good to switch it so easily." The Mayor said.
"Only?" The brunette repeated with a frown.
"Yes, I aimed to learn the main languages spoken in the west world, but with my job I really don't have enough time." The woman explained.
"Makes sense." Adora smiled to her.
"So...what juicy story do you have?" Glimmer asked Catra.
"Sorry Sparkles: the blondie here is blackmailing me." The Latina said, making her roommate smile proudly.
"You guys are impossible!" She growled, while the brunette winked at Adora, who blushed again.
