"People always wanna know your escape plan, but not this time"

✦ ✧ ✦

my body engulfed in overwhelming heat, an unknown feel that I thought would never occur. The scent of dead bodies laying around me, even able to taste it. My ability to move had left me, I felt incredibly tired. My eyes couldn't stay open much longer but before I could fall into endless sleep the sounds of footsteps approaching closer, a silhouette came atop my body and gaze with her eyes. She fell to her knees beside me and looked at my body. perished, crumbled, weak. i never thought i would say or even dare think it but i felt like a fucking human.

''Y-You can't leave after all this! You can't just leave after telling me this! The world needs you, I need you! Please don't go, please please..d-don't'' she held my dying body on her lap while sobbing and whining. I always wanted this. The war where you can only survive by being the strongest, or the smartest? I don't even know anymore. I think I was the smartest by making this choice. The thing I craved for is freedom, leaving the pain behind and going to a place where no one will interrupt you and your life, your choices. But the thing I wanted most was this exact moment. Leaving this life and knowing that I was able to do the one thing I wanted to do all along..

*Rowan's POV*

I just turned 18 and I feel like I turned 4.

My parents treat me like a child, but I'm now an adult! It should be the opposite right?
It's 7am and I am supposed to get ready for school but instead I'm reading my favorite book called 'The Red Flag'. It's an old book from my childhood friend Dakota, she moved years ago and she gave me this so I wouldn't forget her. I've read it almost 3 times and I never got bored. It's a fantasy book about different realms with their own gods. My parents think I should do something more 'productive' instead of reading it. But I will keep reading it, it's just too good!

''It looks like you turned fucking 4 instead of 18!'' James laughed at me as he stood at my door. Dude I already know. He thinks he's so powerful just because he's the older brother.

"Yeah whatever. At least they are nice to me.'' James instantly stops smiling and walks back to his room. He was 20 years old and dated some girl. I was always the single brother. But I didn't really care cause I didn't fall in love easily. He was always switching from girl to girl, such a player. Girls didn't deserve to be played like he did to them, but oh well. Not my business.

As I put on my clothes I turned on the radio on my phone, wondering if something interesting happened. People started talking about myths years ago, about different kinds of humans, such as demons or angels. Even fairies and mermaids. A man said he saw a demon across the road killing a woman and taking her. That's when many people started to confess that they are seeing things too. Some believe it even though they haven't seen anything. I'm one of them. I really think there could be floating islands above the clouds and caves going to hell. I've read and heard things that could be real. So many people are hating us for believing it. That's why everyone keeps it a secret if they believe it.

''Yesterday evening a massive pile of bones were found in the river Tyne. The police stated that the bones were all from humans. An investigators group has been called to investigate this situation further. People are assuming that this could be the doing of the monsters in a different world,'' the woman from the radio said as I turned around in slight shock. Damn, pile of bones? What kind of animal could do that?

As I grabbed my backpack and made a quick sandwich to eat on my way to school, I was still thinking about the news. Could it be a herd of wolves or bears? I have no idea. I wish there was someone at my school who believed in it like me, because Dakota did. We always talked together about our theories and ideas of what kind of creatures could live in those places.

I finally arrived at school. Everyone was talking and just minding their own business, until.

'No! I saw it, trust me! Why are you so cruel!? Just listen to me! Please!'' a boy was screaming while the security was trying to take him down. Sometimes a student goes crazy here, probably about something they saw, but no one believes them. I actually want to see something myself, but I don't think I have the luck they have.

''Welcome class! Here is today's newspaper. You'll have 15 minutes to read and discuss with each other what you've read!'' Our teacher shouted as our class took a seat. I sat next to my friend Michael. I wasn't able to talk to him about my theories, because he absolutely hated people who believed in it. He thinks they only want attention and cause chaos. It could be true, although I don't think so.

''A child's body was found without her left arm. A special investigator group has been called to look at the situation. The police have found the parents and they are devastated.
'She was outside playing with friends, the next thing we knew were the neighbours calling us and showing us her body. It felt terrible seeing my daughter like that! A parent isn't supposed to put their child in their grave!' The mother stated at the interview. Police are still looking for the killer.''

Why is the news getting so terrifying?

''You don't believe that do you?'' Michael suddenly asked as he grabbed the newspaper from my hands. ''N-No I don't'. I just think it's sad for that family, that's all,'' I said nervously as he looked at my newspaper. ''It could be a psycho serial killer, or wild animals. There is no such thing as demons. It's bullshit right?'' He looked annoyed at the newspaper and then glared at me. He looked VERY annoyed.

''Yeah..Bullshit''

After school I felt free. School ruins our lives, it's not even teaching us things we need. Girls were gossiping, boys were laughing, just like every normal day. I walked over to my bike when I saw a group of girls getting caught by security. It could be drugs or they've gone crazy, again. I ignored it and just went home.

I placed my bike in our garden, when I felt something terrible. My head started to hurt, a lot! My stomach was hurting and my legs were shaking. What the fuck is this?
I suddenly felt the urge to throw up, shit. I quickly covered my mouth, trying to keep it in and dashed towards the toilet. I fell on my knees in front of it and threw up. Gross...

''Rowan, are you okay?'' I heard my mother's voice behind me as I felt her hand on my forehead, keeping my hair out of my face. ''I'm fine don't worry.'' I cleaned my mouth and directly went to my room, still not knowing what was happening to me. I locked my door and grabbed 'The Red Flag' and layed down in bed, trying to distract myself with the story.
My skin felt hot and my back was burning like crazy. And I still had no clue what it could be. I never felt this before.

I just kept reading the book and the heat finally stopped after 30 minutes. I went to the bathroom, brushed my teeth and took a shower and went directly to bed. The painful feeling was gone but I felt very tired. As I layed in bed I saw a quick movement going past my window. What was that? I stood up and opened it and looked outside. No one was there.
I probably saw stuff because of how tired I am. I just layed in bed and tried to sleep, not knowing I missed something..

This is the rewritten chapter, hopefully it is better then the first one :) You can ask questions for me to answer btw :)
