CHAPTER 7

I stomped as I entered my new room and quickly stripped off my wet clothes and undergarments, then headed to the bathroom to take a nice warm shower. I kept asking myself why Daniel would do that to me. Why does he always do something that irks me, and he’s going way overboard. I don’t even know why he’s so mad at me. I get it that he hates me, God, he probably abhors everything about me, even a piece of my hair!

“The day will come when I’ll have to talk to him.” I told myself while I towel-dried my hair after getting out of the shower. “He’s fucking insane. I don’t even know why I started liking someone like him. It was just a crush, and he made such a big deal about it.”

I realized stomping around and getting mad wasn’t going to solve anything. I mean come on, if I’m just gonna mope around here for the rest of the night because of what he did then I’m just wasting my time. And I didn’t plan on wasting my precious time in this precious house. I didn’t even come here for him.

“Teka lang…” Napahinto ako sa idea that popped in my head. “He wasn’t even supposed to talk to me! I should tell Dane about what happened.” I was about to pick up my phone when another thought passed through. If I did tell Dane about what happened, he’s probably going to beat up Daniel, and then Daniel is seriously gonna be mad at me again.

Hay naku! We’re just going around in circles. A never ending problem.

“Unless I ignore Daniel. Come on, Kaitlyn. You can do this. Just three weeks with that jerk, right? There are far more better things than him.” I cheered for myself. It was the only thing I could do, for now.

After changing, music filled my room when I played my favorite Journey song. The drum beat in tune with my heartbeat and I was ready to join him singing. My head and body swayed to the rhythm of the music. This particular song always has an effect on me.  Journey was my favorite band and their songs are incredible. Then the chorus came and I belt out whatever I had! I was never a good singer, but I’ve always thought that when it comes to singing, you don’t have to have a beautiful voice to sing. The important things are to have the emotion and feeling when singing.

“It’s okay, anak. Okay lang yan, sige kanta lang.” Sabi ng mama  ko nung biglang naging confident akong sumali sa isang contest. Kumanta ba naman ako, kaya lang di siguro nagustuhan ng mga judge boses ko kaya pina-alis ako bago pa matapos kumanta.

I didn’t understand a thing that happened then, but now I did. My mom encouraged me, because that’s what mothers do, right? I just realized it too late. Heck, I might not like singing in front of crowds but something like singing and breaking necks from head-banging is what I live for. YEAHHH!

That’s when I heard a very loud clearing of a throat. I thought it was me, but I thought wrong. Nowadays, my thoughts have been against me.

There he was, standing on my doorway wearing a graphic V-neck shirt that has an unreadable writing and wearing his pj’s. I could smell his after-shower cologne, and GOD HE SMELLS GOOD!!! The thing that really brought my attention was the single stem of tulip in his hand.

There was an incredible amount of silence wedged between us, and neither of us spoke. I didn’t know what to say, and although he tried to say something, hindi naman makasalita.

I remembered at that moment what I had been doing before I became aware of his presence. Now, tatawagin na niya talaga akong ulol.

“How long have you been standing there?” Tanong ko without moving from where I was.

“Long enough to see the body swaying to that Journey song you always play. Don’t stop… believing. Yup. Or maybe even before that.” He nodded to himself, arms crossed, the tulips still in his hand.

My face turned from embarrassment to annoyance. “Ang epal mo, dude.”

“WHAT! What did you just say? Was it something bad? I’m sure it was bad. Stop talking in that language please!”

“Why do you care? I was born with this language. So I will communicate like that. Stupid.” I told him, mad. “Why are you even here? You’re trespassing did you know that?”

He smiled, that devilish smile that would make any girls swoon at the sight. I was one of those girls. Just now, knowing he’s doing it on purpose, defeats the intention of ridding myself from him the entire stay here.

“And now, I’m the one who’s trespassing in his own home. Seriously Kaitlyn, couldn’t you get any dumber with that notion?” And he laughed. Not the mocking laugh I’ve always heard come out from his mouth. He was dying from laughter, and I just stood there looking at him dumbstruck.

“Dude, are you okay?” I sincerely asked.

He was slowly choking in his own spit and laughter. It was kind of amusing to watch him struggle but at the same time it was very alarming. I moved closer and kept asking him if he was alright. He tried to say something but as he did, he was also struggling for air. His hands were on his knees.

My hands unknowingly started tapping his back and patted it slowly. “Dude, you are seriously freaking me out right now. Let me get you water.”

I was already panicking. Who wouldn’t be when your employer’s brother is choking in front of you? I’d get blamed. I pried open that water bottle, cause when it did water spilled everywhere and I just screamed in frustration.

“Urrggghhh, here, just drink what’s left. You better not die on me, you jerk.” The tone of my voice was unbearably high. He drank all of it in one go and he took a deep breath.

“Whew. That was close.” He said calmly.

“The heck you mean that was close!!!? That was hella close!” I started pacing back and forth, trying to calm myself with my hand on my forehead. “You could’ve died! And I’d get blamed. Then, Mr. Belyakov is going to ship me to Russia, sell me to the mafia, and then I’ll die. I’ll never get to have that party.”

He made me stop pacing and turned me to face him. “Kaitlyn…” he chuckled before he continued, “You are not going to Russia. You are not going to be sold to the mafia and you are not going to die. I’m alive aren’t I?”

P*tang-in*ng Russian accent na yan. “Can… can you like not talk like that?”

“Talk like what? Oh, you meant my accent? I knew you like my accent. Everyone does. But I can’t help it, just like you said before, I was born and raised in Russia. I will talk like this forever. Seems fair, right?”

Damn you. You’re not even too cute.

“No, you’re wrong, Kaitlyn. I know I’m cute. You’ve said it before.”

My eyes widened in horror. Didn’t I talk to myself, or was I mumbling? I shrugged his hands off and I backed away too fast.

Here’s the thing, we were still by the door, and there were a couple of steps down to get to the ‘living room’ in this pool house, and the playlist on my ancient mp3 was on shuffle.
