CHAPTER 3

“Daniel, your language!” lumakas tono ng boses ko. “Come on, Dash, let’s leave your brother alone.”

“I helped him, Kaitlyn.” Sabi ni Diane, nag smile rin siya.

“Come on, come on. Taste them.” Sabi ni Dash.

Ang sarap ng niluto niya. My first time tasting the dish as well, siguro Russian dish ito. Ang galing magluto ng batang ito! Akalain mo 10 years old pa lang, magaling na mag luto.

“Dash, this is great. I’m now convinced you’ll be a great chef someday!” Nagpakatotoo naman ako. “Is that your plan?”

He nodded and smiled. “When I grow up, I’ll have my own restaurant. I’ll be the chef, and I’ll ask Diane if she can make the place pretty.”

I put my hand on his head and messed up his hair.

“Dash, Diane. Listen to me, okay? It’s okay to dream big at your age, but don’t forget that you’re still small. You’ll grow up eventually. Right now, have fun and be happy. Play with your toys. Or maybe, so you won’t forget your dreams. You should write it somewhere and keep it.”

I wasn’t sure if they understood me, pero bahala na. No one talked to me about those things when I was a kid, and by the time I wanted to do something, it was too late to change.

“Don’t be silly, Kaitlyn. I know I’m still a kid, I’m just planning ahead, you know. Like what my brother does.” Dash kept smiling.

“Me… too.”

“You guys are so adorable! You have to be good while growing up, okay?”

They nodded.

“Anyway, Kaitlyn. I know I’m a kid, but… I know a thing or two about liking a person. My teacher said that when a person is mean to you then he’s secretly in love with you.”

As much as it was disgusting, natapon ko na talaga ang pagkain na nasa bibig ko. Walang magawa sina Dash at Diane kundi tumawa.

“Guys, stop it. Oh my god, this is so embarrassing don’t tell ANYONE about what just happened. Dash! Don’t say that again, okay?”

“I haven’t even mentioned anything or anyone! Now that you mentioned that, I’m already curious. HAHAHA. This is good. This is good, and I think I know.” Dash then laughed evilly.

Sabay sabi pa ni Diane. “So, Dash, Katy likes older brother too?”

Namula na ang mga pisngi ko. “Nonsense! Why would I like Daniel?”

“Uhuh! There we go! She mentioned a name! Now suspicion has been proven right. Don’t worry, Kaitlyn, I won’t say anything.”

“Is Dane gone?” I asked and then the kids nodded. “Then you better start running!”

Naisipan ko kasi na mas mabuti pang maghabulan nalang kesa they stay in their rooms and play games all-day long. Mas nakakabuti pa to dahil para naring exercise sa kanila.

The good side too is that they have huge hallways and not much breakable things, so we were running easily around, up and down. But, someone got annoyed, and we stopped.

“You are KJ!” Dash yelled at Daniel. And I laughed so hard. Sinabihan pa naming kill-joy kuya niya.

“What is KJ? Yo, woman, what have you been teaching my siblings?”

“Nothing, brother. She’s teaching us how to be cool.” Sabi naman ni Dash.

This time, si Daniel ang tumawa sarcastically.

“Cool? Dash, don’t you see her? She’s not cool. She’s not even like this in school. Huh, she’ll never be cool.”

He pointed at me when he said those words, and ni-look down pa. Jerk.

“You’re funny, Daniel. Why are you acting like that every time she’s around? But the moment you don’t see her, you keep looking for her? You even-” Before Dash could speak again, Daniel covered his brother’s mouth and started stuttering.

I actually didn’t want to see him or even talk to him at all.

“Hey, uhm. Since, Daniel’s here. I should just go home. Dash, you do know it’s my last day today right?”

He nodded.

“Come on, take me to my car, I have macarons for you and Diane.” They obediently followed and Daniel trailed behind slowly.

Naka dikit lang si Diane sa akin. But then she slowly said, “Do you really have to go, Kaitlyn?”

I nodded. “Today’s my last day of school, and I’m done tutoring Daniel too.”

“But…”

“Come on, here’s for you and Dash. You better share, okay?” She carefully took the bag from me and gave it to Dash.

They started walking back to their house, but Dash yelled. “This is all your fault, Daniel! I’ll have to talk to Dane about this! I’m going to call him right now!”

Wait!!! Pero hindi lumabas sa bibig ko yun, and I realized too late that Daniel was still there.

I silently got in my car and ready to go far from this place.

“Now my siblings hate me.”

“Do you hate me as well?” Tanong niya sa akin.

“It depends on how you act towards me, Daniel.” I plainly told him and I heard him sigh. Kung magpapakabait ako sa kanya ngayon, he’s gonna take advantage again.

“Before you go…”
