On thin ice

Hard work pays off

Luz POV:

So far winter break has been, interesting. When Eda came to pick me up, she asked why I wanted to leave so early. I lied and said that I just needed a break from all the work I was doing. It wasn't a complete lie. I did have lots of homework. Now I see why I used to skip school all the time. This is ridiculous.

Okay, not all of it is bad. Its just the one subject that kills me every time. Math. Like if I had a time machine, I would travel back in time to the person who made math and kick him in the balls. I get that math is needed for a lot of things but it's so.....ugly.

So now I'm sitting here on the couch trying to do trig. Eda can't help me because her methods are just, Eda. I keep getting distracted by Eda's dog king. He has a red collar and a little fake horns on his head. He was very cute. Blight would've liked him. Come on not this again. I could not stop thinking about what went down that night. I was so stupid. But I already made a deal and I can't go back.

Jessica was capable of many things. Blackmail was probably number 2. Number 1 was getting anything she wanted, which I hated. Jessica wasn't always like this. She used to be genuinely a nice person. I don't know what changed that. Maybe Boscha or Willow knows. Maybe even Skara. But I couldn't talk to them, not yet.

I've got the perfect plan. I close the math book and throw it to the side. Math can wait.

I run upstairs to the room that I was staying in. Well I guess it was my room. I looked out the window and it was finally snowing. Usually it snows the first day of winter or even days before. I grab my green jacket that Eda bought for me and I look for my beanie. Where did I put it? I walk back downstairs to continue to look. That's when I saw king had it in his mouth. Gross. He put up a fight but I got it from him.

I grabbed my phone and headed for the door. When I opened it, Eda was standing right there. "AHHH", I screamed and fell back. The older woman looked at me and shook her head. "Where are you off in a rush to Kid?", she asked. "Uhh just going for a walk", I lied smiling and getting up.

"Mhm, you usually take king with you", she said not believing my story. "Anyways, before you go anywhere, I need your help at the shop", Eda said turning on her heels and heading for her car. I groaned and closed the door behind me as I followed her.

I didn't wanna work. It's winter break, I wanna do anything but work basically. It beats doing math though. Eda owned a nice little coffee shop down the street. She has employees but she was still short on staff. She did say I would get paid so I won't complain too much.

~Time skip~

Willow POV:

I was spending most of my break with my dads who invited Boscha to come stay too. Which she obviously agreed to. We were walking down the street to a coffee shop near the house. Boscha was craving coffee so I agreed to walk with her.

Boscha pushed open the door and the little bell chimed. The smell of freshly baked muffins and vanilla filled the air. While waiting in line something caught my eye. Well someone. It couldn't be. I saw Luz behind the counter. She was making someone's order at the moment.

Boscha took notice of it too and whispered in my ear. "Holy shit that's Luz". "Yeah I know", I whispered back. The line started to move up. Luz was now taking some girls order and charming her in the process. I rolled my eyes and nudged Boscha, telling her to look. We watched as Luz went to go make that girls drink.

The same girl went to wait somewhere else. Luz was then talking to who I guessed was her coworker. They were giggling about stuff and pushing each other around. Just then the door chimed again. A girl pushed by to get her order which was for pick up I guess. It was Jessica. Me and Boscha turned so she wouldn't see us. "Ahem", she said, getting the attention of Luz and her coworker. Her presence startled Luz it seems like.

I watched as she hurried her way over to the raven haired girl. Jessica leaned on the counter to whisper something to Luz who nodded quickly in response. Jessica took her drink and walked out. Now it was our turn to be seen by Luz.

We walked to the counter and stood there awkwardly. "Um what do you guys want?", Luz asked, her tone coming off as annoyed. "No hi?", Boscha asked rolling her eyes. She thought about what she wanted which took a while. "Ugh just hurry up and order", Luz said groaning. This was not good. I know Luz and I know Boscha. This wouldn't end well. "Oh I'm sorry that I actually take time to think about what I want instead of going for many different things at once", Boscha said coldly. "Sound familiar?". "Come on Boscha let's go", I said trying to push her out.

Luz jumped over the counter. "No, no, if she has more shit to say she can stay and say it", Luz said pushing Boscha. Well fuck. Boscha pushed Luz back and people started to form around the two. "Hey!", Eda yelled making the two stop. "Take that outside please", she said before going back to work.

They took notice to what they were doing and stood up. I heard Eda say that Luz could go and we all walked out. We went and sat on a bench near the shop. "Guys", Luz tried to start. "No, you don't get to talk now after what you did to amity", Boscha yelled standing up. "You don't know the full story so shut the fuck up", Luz said yelling and standing up as well. "Guys enough", I yelled. "Boscha, we're gonna listen and let Luz speak". "Luz go".

We listened as she explained what happened. "Wow", I said. "That bitch", Boscha said. "I'm sorry guys, I know it's dumb but I just didn't want blight finding out about me", Luz said. Boscha and I looked at each other. "I'm sorry too", Boscha started. "I just hated to see amity cry". "Luz you have to tell amity this", I said. "I can't, what if she hates me?", she asked. "Dude it's amity, shes practically in love with you", Boscha said. "She is?", Luz asked confused.

We looked at her. "God you both are oblivious", I said shaking my head laughing. "How am I supposed to just tell her how I feel and apologize at the same time", Luz asked. "Don't you guys have a competition coming up?", I asked. "Yeah but I didn't finish the song", Luz replied. "Well go finish it dumbass", Boscha said. Luz playfully punched her arm. "Look at us getting along again", I said hugging both of them.

They laughed and we all decided to head back to my dads. Luz told Eda she would stay over for the night and I asked my dads if she could. They said it was ok. Me and Boscha decided to help Luz finish the song and find a way to help her get with amity.
