"No amity that's not right, your turns aren't tight enough", Odalia groaned. Amity's mom came to help her prepare for the competition that was just around the corner. Everytime she came to help, it made amity want to off herself. Her mom pushed her so much. She had to be perfect.

This competition meant a lot to her but nothing should cause her this much stress. Actually, everything causes her stress. Everything except Luz. Being with Luz made her feel stress free. And kissing her. There were so many words amity could use to describe that. She was distracted thinking about Luz, again.

Amity lost focus and ran into the wall, falling back. "Amity! What has gotten into you?", Odalia said skating over to her daughter. "I got distracted", amity said getting up. "When i was your age I wasn't allowed to get distracted. I was always focused", Odalia started to ramble about how good she was. Every time this happened, it made amity feel bad about herself.

She made amity's accomplishments feel like a minor inconvenience. "All right ladies clear the ice, it's hockey time", she heard a familiar voice say. Odalia did not like this. "Alador you clearly see me and amity are practicing". "Yeah but my team has a game in two days so we need more practice", Alador replied.

The two went back and forth causing amity to just leave. They always did this and in public, having it end the same way. Amity was fed up with the non stop arguing. She changed out of her clothes and put more comfortable ones. She wondered if Luz was there to see her parents fight.

Amity hoped she arrived to practice late. That wouldn't be good on her end but great on amity's. Without Luz, amity was more bored than she'd ever been. She sat on her bed to think. "Mhm what would Luz do?", she asked herself out loud.

That was the problem. Amity didn't have an imagination like Luz did. Amity's mind was filled with logic and equations, basically being left brained. While Luz's brain was filled with...who knows what her brain was filled with.

Having nothing else to do, amity decided to just take a nap. Just as she tried to go to sleep, someone busted through the door.

"Amity blight, what are you doing?", the voice amity didn't want to hear spoke. "Sleeping", she said groaning and putting her pillow over her face. "Blights don't sleep", Odalia said.

"Mom, everyone sleeps", amity replied. "Well you're not sleeping right now, we have a competition to win", her mother said. Amity then got an idea. She sat up and began to speak. "I can't practice on an empty stomach so can we get lunch first and then come back and practice", she said putting on a begging smile.

Her mother stood there and thought about it. "Mhm fine, we can go eat and then immediately come back and practice, no excuses". Amity smiled and stood up, asking her mother to let her get ready.

Odalia told her to be quick and left. Amity took this time to find an outfit that would be approved by her mother. She was almost an adult but still needed approval from her mother. When she was about to pull her shirt over her head, someone barged through the door.

Amity was quick to cover herself. "Oh shit", Luz said covering her eyes. "My bad baby blight, I didn't know you were in here", Luz said trying to get to her bed without looking at amity. 'New nickname', amity thought while taking this time to pull her shirt over her head. "Well I convinced my mom to go to lunch before more practice", she said going to the bathroom to fix her hair.

Luz thought for a moment."Blight can I ask you something?". "Sure, go ahead", Amity said, putting on mascara. "Do you ever get a break?", Luz asked. Amity stopped. "Break from what?", amity asked, knowing exactly what Luz was talking about. "I don't know, like school, skating, your family", Luz said. "Like remember that Saturday night we took?".

"The one where we almost died", amity said rolling her eyes. "Yeah that one", Luz said laughing. "What if we do something like that again?". Amity's face turned red. Was Luz talking about a date? "Um sure! It's a date. Well not a literally date. Unless you want it to be. But you probably don't so-".

"Amity chill", Luz laughed. "Let me put it this way. Amity blight, will you do the honor of going to dinner with me?".

Amity did not wanna turn around but she did anyways. Luz was down on one knee. "Luz get up", amity said laughing. The Latina stood up and sat on the bed. "Sooo?". Amity pretended to think about it. "Yes Luz, I will go to dinner with you". "Great, I'll text you the address. I would pick you up but you know", Luz said.

"Yeah we're gonna have to get you a license", amity replied grabbing her things to leave. "My mom is probably waiting for me so I'll see you tonight". "Okay, don't forget", Luz said fake pouting. "Oh shut up I won't", Amity said leaving the room and closing the door.

She ran down the stairs and out to her mothers car.  "Finally, it took you ages", Odaila said checking her mirrors. "I'm sorry, it won't happen again", amity replied putting her seatbelt on. "Good now lets go", Odalia said pulling off.

Amity POV:
The car ride was awkward and silent, except for the talk about grades and school and boys. Gross. But now we're at this Keto place for lunch...yay.

Apparently my mom is on some diet. The waiter came over and we ordered drinks. My mom got this weird kale drink and I got the one normal thing they had, lemonade. Yes, even the water was weird. "Oh amity don't you think that the waiter is handsome?", she asked me.

Oh great, not this again. " I think he's..okay", I replied. "I'll call him over for you", my mom said. I freaked out. "NO". I knocked my drink over. Great. Already frustrated, I clean myself up. "Amity blight, what is wrong with you", my mother said.

That's it. "Me? What's wrong with me? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? You keep trying to push all these things on me like school, skating, BOYS. I. DONT. LIKE. BOYS, MOTHER. I NEVER HAVE, NEVER WILL", I started yelling.

She stood up. "Amity that is no way for a blight to behave". "UGH WHAT IS WITH YOU AND BLIGHT THIS BLIGHT THAT. WHY IS BEING A BLIGHT SO MENTALLY DRAINING? I've been following in your footsteps since I was a kid. I did everything ever asked of me and clearly it's not good enough. It will never be good enough for you", I said backing up from the table.

Everyone was looking at us but I didn't care. I looked at my mom. "I will never be good enough for you? Will I?". She stood there with her eyes wide. Just then the waiter came over. "Is everything okay with you ladies?", he asked. "Everything is just peachy", I said before walking out.

Great it's raining. My umbrella is in the car but I'm not going back there. I wish I was with Luz. LUZ! Shit I forgot. I looked at my phone for the address. It wasn't that far from here. I take off running in the direction of the restaurant. The lights are dim. Oh no are they closed?!

Then I saw her. Luz. Sitting at the bar. Alone. She walked out and let an umbrella up. I called out to her and ran her way. I stood there and tried to explain myself. "I am so so sorry. I lost track of time and then all this stuff with my mom happened and I don't want to let another person down", I said trying not to cry.

Luz didn't say anything. She just held out the umbrella for me. That was better than words. I lunge toward her and I wrap my arms around her waist for a hug. Luz dropped the umbrella and hugged me back as I cried. "It's ok hermosa", Luz whispered in my ear.

I didn't know what it meant. But it was enough for me to get butterflies. "You smell good", I said to her. We both laughed. "Thank you", Luz replied. "I think we should go in now". "Aren't they closed?", I asked confused.

"Technically but I know the guy who owns this place and he owes me one so we have this place to ourselves", Luz said. We got up and started to walk inside. "You never fail to surprise me Noceda", I said. "Well then it's good that you like surprises", Luz said. She's right. I do love surprises. Her being this accepting is one huge surprise. But me falling for her? That's no surprise.
