Gryffindor versus Ravenclaw

It looks like the end of Hermione and I's friendship with Ron. Each of us is so mad at the other that I can't see how we'll ever make up.

Ron is enraged that Hermione and I never took Crookshanks and Lizzie's attempts to eat Scabbers seriously, didn't bother to keep a close enough watch on him and are still trying to pretend that Crookshanks and Lizzie are innocent by suggesting Ron look for Scabbers under all the boys' beds. Hermione and I, meanwhile, maintain fiercely that Ron has no proof that Crookshanks and Lizzie have eaten Scabbers, that the ginger and darker hairs might have been there since Christmas, and that Ron has always been prejudice against our cats ever since Crookshanks and Lizzie landed on Ron in the Magical Menagerie.

Personally, Harry and Danny are sure that Crookshanks and Lizzie have eaten Scabbers, I know because they point it out to Hermione and me that all evidence points that way, and we lose our temper with Harry and Danny, too.

"OK, side with Ron, we knew you would!" Hermione says shrilly, but she takes Danny's hand. I think it's more of an automatic thing now. "First the Firebolt, now Scabbers, everything's our fault, isn't it! Just leave us alone, Harry, Danny, we've got a lot of work to do!"

Ron has taken the loss of his rat very hard indeed.

The team walk out onto the pitch to tumultuous applause. The Ravenclaw team, dressed in blue, are already standing in the middle of the pitch. Their Seeker, Cho Chang, is the only girl in their team. She is shorter than Harry by about a head, and I can't help noticing, nervous for Harry as I am, that she is extremely pretty. She smiles at Harry as the teams face each other behind their captains, and a feel a pang of jealousy, because Harry is looking her in a way I know all too well - it's the same look Gregory gave me when we were dating. Harry fancies Cho Chang. Then I compose myself. Harry's not the bad guy here. I am. I'm the one using him to try and heal my heartbreak...and maybe to get back at Gregory, too.

Madam Hooch says something briskly, and Wood shakes hands with the Ravenclaw captain.

Madam Hooch says something else.

The team kick off into the air and Harry's Firebolt zooms higher and faster than any other broom; he soars around the stadium and begins squinting around for the Snitch, me listening all the while to the commentary, which is being provided by the Weasley Twins' friend, Lee Jordan.

"You can do it, Harry!" I scream. Then I remember I'm meant to be mad at him. Oh well, he probably can't hear me and Gregory's not far away...

"They're off, and the big excitement this match is the Firebolt which Harry Potter is flying for Gryffindor. According to Which Broomstick, the Firebolt's going to be the broom of choice for the national teams at this year's World Championship -"

"Jordan, would you mind telling us what's going on in the match?" interrupts Professor McGonagall's voice.

"Right you are, Professor - just giving a bit of background information. The Firebolt, incidentally, has a built-in auto-brake and -"

"Jordan!"

"OK, OK, Gryffindor in possession, Katie Bell of Gryffindor heading for goal..."

Harry streaks past Katie in the opposite direction, gazing around for a glint of gold and I notice Cho Chang is tailing him closely. She is undoubtedly a very good flier - she keeps cutting across him, forcing him to change direction.

"You can do it, Harry!" I shout.

Fred yells something as he whooshes past in pursuit of a Bludger that is aiming for Alicia.
