Sarah
--------------
I'm reeeally lucky there were no cops on the side roads today, because they'd have booked my ass for hazardous driving. I slammed my car in park before jogging up to the door and banging my fist on it
"Calm down! Jesus Christ..." I heard from inside just before the door swung open, revealing a disheveled Luke "Sarah what-"
"Shut up. You ran away, yet again. You said that River was the most intelligent of the guys in our circle of friends, well your the dumbest. When I realized I still had that date tonight, I was trying to ask you how I should cancel it; if I should go with nice and polite, or just simply tell him I was in love with someone else! I wasn't just going to walk away from you like you've done to me so many times." I yelled, punching his shoulder a couple times
"Sarah-" he tried, trying to block my hits
"Shut up! I'm not finished." I snapped, slapping his hands away from my wrists "I have been in love with you for the longest time, and for the first while, I was terrified. You were this huge playboy who could have any girl he wanted at the snap of his fingers; and me? I was this pathetic girl with braces in chunky glasses. I knew you'd never notice me and as stupid as it sounds, I changed myself. I got contacts, finally had my braces removed, cut my hair, ditched the baggy clothes and ugly skirts, and started partying a bit. Then one night, at a party you looked right past me and walked up to my best friend. And again, stupid, but I fucked the first guy who looked at me; and I was deemed as 'head slut' and 'home wrecker' because guess what?! The guy had a girlfriend!" I continued. For almost a year I'd kept this to myself, and now, it was all coming to light "And then I finally get you to notice me, and again, you completely over look me; so I try to move on. Then you chose to notice me. So I try to talk it out, and then I try to solve it again, and you completely lose your top and storm off, telling me that I'm the one who screwed it up when I all I was trying to do was explain-" suddenly his hands were on my upper arms and I was spun around, my back slammed against the wall of the house
"I never said you were the one who screwed it up!" He snarled, his face inches from mine
"That's kind of what it sounded like!" I screamed struggling to get his hands off my arms
"Sarah I never meant for it to sound like that!" He yelled, my struggle not affecting him at all
"Oh, I'm sorry, so now I have to read between the lines to-" I cried, clawing at his hands
"Alright that's enough!" He growled, shoving me harder against the wall, his body pressed to mine as his hands slid from my arms to my hands and pinned them above my head "my turn to talk." He snapped quietly, his eyes glaring into my own "I might not have noticed you right away, but dammit I notice you now! The first time I actually saw you, the real you, was in the mall. No woman has ever had the guts to talk to me, or to herself around me the way you did. My pervy comments didn't earn a shy smile, or a flirty wink, they earned a slap to the head. Every girl I looked at...it was like I was subconsciously comparing them to you. I'd notice the blonde of one girls head looked so fake compared to your color, or how one girl had these dull blue eyes while yours were so lively. Hell, on one girl I actually compared the fact that she didn't have that little spot just above her jaw; and that absolutely terrified me. I've never done- I've never thought of ever having a relationship, or actually caring for a woman who wasn't my mother, or one of my sisters. I had no idea what to do. And I know that I should have talked to one of the losers we hang out with, but like you said; I'm the dumbest in our group. And although most of the time I completely fuck things up before I get to say this, I love you too, Sarah." He confessed, glancing away, his ears turning a little pink. Neither of us moved, neither of us said anything; almost like we were afraid that this wasn't real. Slowly, he let go of my hands, but he didn't step back, he just rested his hands on the wall near my waist
"Is what you said true, or are you just fucking with me?" I asked quietly, staring at the small stain on his shirt near his shoulder
"Its true. I was hooked at that first slap." He chuckled, and I could see his jaw move as he shook his head. Without thinking, I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him, forcing myself onto the ends of my toes. One of his hands curled around my waist while the other tangled itself in my hair. That whole butterfly cliche? I hate to tell you this, but its real. I had the whole damn colony in my stomach, flying around in a frenzy as the kiss became less needy and more passionate
"As much as I hate to ruin this...I'm supposed to meet Ace and Steele at her house." I told him as I placed my heels back on the ground. His lips tugged into a frown as his eyes searched my face "And you, sir, are coming with me because everyone's worried about our dumbest loser." I grinned, twisting my fingers through his own
"I don't want to watch a movie with Ace! She always picks lame movies." He whined, tilting his head back
"I like those movies too, you know. So if you really do love me like you said you do, you'll have to adjust. And you are coming, because I don't want to be the third wheel." I told him, squeezing his hands
"Fine." He groaned after a second, looking down at me
"Let's go then!" I yelled, dragging him towards my car, only to have him jerk me back into his arms and press one more soft kiss to my lips
"Now we can go." He grinned, grabbing my keys and walking to the passenger side and opening the door "get in!" He laughed after a moment of me not moving
"You are not driving my car." I informed him, crossing my arms "I've seen how you drive."
"Sarah, I will force you into the car." He threatened, and I knew he'd do it
"Fine." I pouted, stomping to the car and sliding in, watching as he shut the door and jogged to the drivers side.
--------------------------------
"I knew it! Steele you owe me $20!" Ace yelled as Luke and I walked through the door
"Dammit Sarah! Why didn't you go home and grab some different clothes?! Or was your hair!?" Steele yelled, retrieving his wallet from his back pocket
"You bet on where I was going?!" I gasped, glaring at them
"No. We didn't bet on where you were going, we knew that already. We bet on whether or not you two were finally going to throw your pride under the bus and admit what everyone else already knew; you love each other." Ace explained, taking the $20 from Steele
"Wait-what?!" Luke asked, his eyes wide as he stared at his friends
"You two were the only ones who didn't see it! Jesus Christ, even Josh saw it; and he's the most oblivious of us all!" Steele laughed, sitting down on the couch and pulling Ace into his lap, wrapping his arms around her waist
"We've all been waiting since before the barn accident." Ace added, tracing patterns on Steele's hands
"Well shit..." Luke trailed, scratching his neck
"Okay, new topic!" I declared, putting my purse on the floor near my shoes and taking off my sweater "what are we watching?"
"We are watching 'Centurion' the only movie Ace and I could agree on. You love birds get to chose the next movie." Steele told me, moving so his legs were across the couch, and Ace was lying in front of him
"So no tear jerkers?" Luke asked whistfully, glancing at the TV
"Don't worry, we won't make you guys watch Ruffian anymore, we know how emotional you get." Ace teased, picking up the remote
"Hahaha, shut up Ace." Luke snarked, twisting his face up
"You wanna go bout this?" Ace asked standing up
"No not really." Luke muttered, stepping behind me
"Reqll ballsy, Luke." Steele muttered, jerking Ace back onto the couch and hugging her to his chest "now shut off the lights and sit down." He demanded, throwing a piece of popcorn in our direction. On our way to other side of the L shaped couch, Luke flicked the light before laying down and pulling me down beside him as Ace pressed play on the movie.
---------------
Once the movie was over, Steele went to go make some more popcorn while Luke and I picked the next movie
"What about 'SeaBiscuit'?" I suggested, holding up a movie from Ace's extensive equine film collection
"How about no!" Luke laughed "Because all the horse movies Ace own make people want to cry, or yell, or smash the TV. What about '300'?" He asked, holding the case out towards me
"Are we having a war movie marathon?" Steele asked jokingly as he sat the popcorn bowl down on the coffee table
"That actually sounds like a good idea." Ace trailed off, glancing at Luke and I
"Hell yeah!" Luke grinned
"Sure." I smiled, noticing how Steele stared at the smile on Ace's face like it was what he wanted to see for the rest of his life
"I've got some more war movies in my room, I'll go grab them." Ace cheered, running from the room
"You two are so opposite it's scary." Luke chuckled, sliding in '300'
"It works though, somehow... I never thought nearly killing the local creep could be so beneficial." He joked before glancing am over at us "I'm glad you two finally got it together." He admitted
"Believe me, I don't think it would have if she hasn't tried to beat down my door and screamed at me." Luke laughed, ruffling my hair
"Hey! No touching the hair! You two be barians, I'm going to go help Ace." I muttered before departing
"Beat down your door?" Steele chortled as Luke started recounting my arrival
"Ace, you oka- holy hell what happened to your room?!" I gasped. There were clothes everywhere, her movie collection was scattered across the bed, and she was no where to be seen
"Oh, hi!" She smiled, popping out from under a pile of clothes
"What are you doing?" I laughed, walking over to the bed and sitting down on a small, movie free space
"My copy of 'Mongol' was over here..." She trailed off, looking around the pile in confusion
"Is this it?" I asked, picking it up from her nightstand
"Um....yeah." She blushed, standing up and making her way over to me
"So what've we got?" I asked, motioning to the pile she placed 'Mongol' on
"We've got 'Mongol', 'Brave Heart', 'Act of Valor', 'Atilla', 'Saving Private Ryan', 'Fury', 'Letters from Iwa Jima', 'Shindlers List', and'We Were Soldiers' are the ones I could find." she explained as she flipped through the pile "we won't get through all of them, but we can watch a few." She added, glancing up at me
"No way! 'The Lucky One' was way better than 'The Last Song'!" We heard Luke hiss as we walled down the stairs
"In what world is-oh...hey." Steele mumbled, glancing down at the floor when he noticed us. Luke finally noticed us and his ears turned red almost as quick as Steele's had
"And we're the ones into chick flicks." I commented, smirking as the blush spread to their necks
"Shut up. We wanna start the movie." Luke muttered, looking anywhere but at us
"Okay." I grinned before Ace read off what she'd found in her room
"We are not watching all of those tonight." Steele informed her "most of us have chores tomorrow morning." He added, Luke nodding
"We won't watch all of them! Just most of them?" She asked, biting her lip and looking at the floor before looking Steele right in the eye
"I hate you! You always use that!" He groaned "We'll watch a few." He grumbled, laying across the couch
"Yay!" Ace cheered, doing the running man before transitioning into the moonwalk "Sarah, learn what look gets him to cave, then perfect it. You'll need it." She told me quietly as she walked over to Steele
"Will do." I grinned, cuddling up to Luke again as the movie started.
