Everyone had gone back to school, leaving only Josh, Sarah, Steele and I here
"I miss Luke." Sarah sulked quietly from where she sat curled up in one of my bean bag chairs
"He'll be back in 3 months babe." I tried soothing, reaching over and taking her hand
"I know." She muttered "do you want to start planning you're wedding? It'll take our minds off of things
"Sure, that sounds fun!" I grinned, grabbing an empty binder from my desk and setting it on the floor in front of us
"Where do you want it?" She asked, picking up a green inked pen
"I've never actually thought about it, but I really don't want the traditional church idea..." I trailed, pulling a face as I looked at our depressingly blank page
"Let's list three ideas, then we'll go find Steele." Sarah suggested, twirling her pen
"Back pasture, by the creek." I grinned, remembering the gazibo my father had built on our land
"That would be cute." She grinned, writing it down "What about the old bridge? Just outside of town. Its beautiful there." She smiled, looking a little less upset about Luke
"Yes! Oh, the barn!" I squealed, pointing at the paper
"Okay, all written down. STEELE!" She screamed, dragging me from the room and out to the barn where he and Josh were helping my dad fix a belt
"What?! What's wrong?" He demanded, grabbing my shoulders, all three men looking concerned
"Which of these locations do you like best?" She questioned calmly, holding out the binder
"You ran out here screaming like a banshee...for that?!" Josh hissed, glaring at the blonde
"Shut up dip shit." She snapped, glaring at Josh "Steele answer the question!" She whined, a playful sulk on her face
"Um, I like the creek idea and the barn." He confessed, glancing at Sarah cautiously
"Ugh, that still leaves a choice of two!" I groaned, throwing my head back
"Isn't our gazibo by the creek?" My dad asked, looking at the list from over Steele and Josh's shoulders
"Yeah." I told him, he already knew that
"You put some lights there, and it the trees by the river and it'll look nice." He suggested, slapping Josh on the back, grinning sheepishly when Josh nearly face planted the ground
"That sounds pretty, let's do that! Thanks daddy." I cheered, kissing my dad on the cheek before dragging Sarah back into the house
"Next time don't scream please!" My dad yelled after us
"Promise!" I yelled back as the screen door slammed behind us.
--------------------------------
"You girls look tired." Josh smirked, dropping down on a bean bag chair, Steele dropping into the other
"We planned all day!" I whined, motioning to the binder, and pictures we'd printed from Pinterest
"All day? What've you got?" Josh asked curiously, still reclined in the chair
"Gazibo by the creek, twinkly lights, dance floor, ice cream bar, we're looking at dresses that can be paired with boots, and we're doing a barbeque." I read off the page where everything had been written down randomly
"So more laid back?" Steele grinned hopefully
"Yes, Steele. I won't make you wear a tux." I explained, both Sarah and I laughing
"Oh thank god." He cheered, Josh looking a lot more enthusiastic as well.
"What are you guys working on now?" josh asked, wandering over and laying down on my bed beside Sarah
"Wedding cake ideas." I explained, showing him some of the cakes we'd found
"That one looks cool!" He exclaimed, pointing at a cake that looked like a truck stuck in a mud hole
"Yeah, I like that." Steele added, laying down beside me. Thank god for king sized beds
"I like this one." Sarah told them. Half of the cake was real tree, the other was simple white icing with a swirly design traced into the icing
"They're alright." I mumbled as we kept scrolling
"That ones cute." Josh pointed to a white cake with icing made to look like a shiny red ribbon around the top tier
"Its pretty." Steele muttered, looking unsure about it
"What about that one!" I gasped, clicking on one
"Holy shit..." Josh grinned, a glint in his eyes
"Ooooh..." Sarah trailed before squealing and hugging me
"That one, that's it." Steele smirked, wrapping his arm around my waist from where he lay beside me.
-----------------------
"So, there's about 9 months until the wedding, so I suggest dress shopping." My mother told Sarah and I as everyone sat around the table eating supper. The three of us were talking about the dress while my father, Josh and Steele talked about what they could do instead of Tux's
"Ooh, yes! And seeing as I'm three months along already, I'll have had my mini already so I can wear a normal dress." Sarah squealed, bouncing in her chair
"That's great!" I exclaimed, hugging her "I can't wait until you have mini!" I added as I pulled away
"Me too. I'm so excited!" She sighed as my mother looked at her happily
"When are you able to find out the gender, dear?" My mother asked, sipping her water as she smiled at Sarah
"I made an appointment for the week that Luke's back, that way he can be there." She explained, a small smile on her face as she thought of her boyfriend
"I'm glad he finally got it together, took him long enough to notice." My mother sighed, shaking her head. She and my father had come to think of the boys and Sarah as family, much like Lexi and Kira
"He didn't." Josh laughed as the three men joined our conversation
"What do you mean?" My father asked, drinking from the Jack and Coke he was drinking
"Sarah went over and yelled it at him, telling him that it was him she was in love with, not Tucker, and that he'd just been to stupid to notice all of her hints." Steele laughed, recalling our movie night
"Really?" My mother asked, shaking her head
"Yeah, we both ended up screaming at eachother. A really interesting way of confessing, huh?" Sarah blushed, playing with her potatoes
"Sarah don't play with you're food." My mother chastened, giving Sarah the 'mothers look'
"Sorry." Sarah squeaked before shoving a fork full of potatoes into her mouth
"So dress shopping this weekend then?" I questioned, my eyes on my mother and Sarah
"Yes." They chimed in sync before the three of us started talking about where in town, as well as the towns around us might sell dresses.
-----------------------------
The week went by quickly, and soon enough it was the weekend. Sarah had moved in with us, and Josh had started staying at Steele's
"I'll stop by your house when I get home, okay?" I grinned at my pouting fiancé. He had just been told I wasn't going to be able to spend today with him. Between college courses and chores, we got a few hours during the week, and weekends to be together
"But I don't want to hang out with Josh." Steele whined, his hands on my waist. "Steele, let go or I'll remove your hands from your body." Sarah glared, standing beside me, her arms crossed
"Fine, but I'm letting GI because I have chores to do. Not because your hormones scare me." He muttered, stepping away from me
"Yeah, keep telling yourself that. I'm more than willing to admit her hormones scare me. She threw a plate at me!" Josh explained from where he sat on the porch
"There are days I'd love to throw a plate at you, it isn't hormones." Steele grumbled, dropping onto the step beside our friend
"Fuck you too!" Josh sulked, crossing his arms and glaring away from Steele
"Can we please go? Before they start acting even more like 12 year old girls?" I asked, pointing at Steele and Josh
"Yes, please. Or my hormonal ass is gon a lose it." Sarah groaned as she and I climbed into the back of my dads truck
"You three ready?" He asked as my mother shut the passenger side door
"Yup." We all chorused, our chatter starting the second the truck started rolling.
The drive was filled with talking and laughing, the anticipation growing by the kilometer. By the time my dad parked in front of 'Rubys Bridal', I thought the cab would blow off the truck
"Let's go?" Sarah squealed, grabbing my band and running into the store
"Hello, do you have an appointment?" A snobby brunette asked from behind the front desk
"They don't need one. This is my niece." Aunt Ruby hissed as she walked up to us
"Oh, I'm so sorry, miss Ruby." The bitch apologized before her eyes scanned us from top to bottom "I'll show you to the back." She sneered, her nose turning towards as she turned to lead us into the brid shop
"No need. I'll be taking this one, Jessica." My aunt dismissed, hugging my mom and I
"Hello ma'am." Sarah smiled, holding her hand out
"You must be Sarah!" My aunt smiles, pulling the blonde into a hug "you don't shake families hands honey." She added before leading us all to the back
"Still married to this asshole I see." Ruby snipped as she walked
"You know, no many people see the world the way you do Ruby. Your heads too far up your ass to see what the rest of us do." My dad smiled snidely as he followed us. There was no further banter between the two as he sat down on the couch in the viewing area while the rest of us went to find some dresses
"Let's get this show on the road." Ruby grinned, shutting the door and helping me slide into the first dress. It was a ball gown; gross
"You look like you've been swallowed by a monster!" My dad laughed, clutching his stomach
"Love you too dad." I laughed as Ruby followed me back into the room. 7 dresses later, I could one I liked. It was a strapless, trumpet style silk dress, with a red belt that hung low on my hips, small crystals dotting the belt every two inches
"Honey you look gorgeous." Ruby muttered, covering her mouth "Let's go show them!" She smiled, walking out ahead of me. Nobody said anything, they all just stared at me
"You look-" my dad started, but suddenly his eyes welled up with tears, and he stopped for a moment, wiping tears away "You look beautiful baby." He finished, standing up to hug me
"Thanks daddy." I smiled, tucking my face into his chest
"Oh pull yourself together George." My aunt commented, crossing her arms
"You should go, they're towing your broom; you parked in the descent person zone." He quipped, stepping away from me
"Babe you look gorgeous!" Sarah squealed, her eyes scanning me from head to toe
"Steele's gonna die!" She added, hugging me
"I'm gonna change out of this so we can pay. I neef a burger." I groaned, walking back into the room after hugging my mother
"Understandable." Aunt Ruby chuckled as she untied the back of the dress
"I hope you found one your size." The brunette, Jessica, quipped as Sarah and I walked up to the counter
"Of course, they've got my size, but if you ever need one, which I doubt, you might want to check the plus sized section." I smiled rudely, glaring at her. Her eyes narrowed before grabbing the dress and scanning it
"$675, think you can afford it?" She asked snidely, glaring at me
"Asks the one behind the counter." I muttered sarcastically, holding out my debit card
"This says Wild Rose Ranch on it." The girl frowned, looking at the back
"My families ranch. This dress is my daddies present." I informed her, her eyes widening. We had the biggest ranch in the area, thousands of cattle, and nearly as many horses. We bred quality quarter horses, as well as both brama and equine bucking stock, and had prize winning show and rodeo horses. My mother also owned a thoroughbred whos ran in the Kentucky dirby more than once
"Y-Youre Miss Jobins?" The girl stuttered, staring at me
"yes. I am." I confirmed, looking at her
"I'm so sorry, I didn't me-" she started, her face turning red
"Please, just ring it up." I sighed, motioning to my card which was still in her hand. She quickly rang it up before handing me my plastic and putting the dress in a bag
"Its going out for alterations." My aunt explained, taking the bag from Jessica as she and my parents joined us near the counter
"She just paid, though." Jessica explained, frowning
"Alterations are part of my wedding present to her." Aunt Ruby explained, hanging the dress up on the send out rack
"We better be going, it was nice seeing you again!" My mother smiled, hugging her older sister
"Same." Ruby smiled "always a pleasure, George." She added, nodding at my father
"Always something." My dad muttered sourly as he walked out ahead of us
"Bye girls, Ace, say hello to Steele for me!" Ruby told me as hugged Sarah and I "I'm glad he's joining our family." She smiled before we walled out and climbed into the truck, deciding to grab McDonalds for us, Josh, and Steele before heading out of town.
