Steele

The next morning my mother banged on the door, screaming about how I needed to get up and get dressed so we could go to church. Swinging my legs over the side of my bed, I rubbed my hand down my jaw, feeling the stubble of 5 o'clock shadow and decided that shaving was manditory or my mom would kill me. I grabbed some clean jeans and boxers alomg with a white pearl snap shirt before walking across the hall into the bathroom and showered before shaving and dressing. Once done, I quickly made my way down stairs to the kitchen where my mother stood in a pink floral dress and white high heels, her hair curled and poofed up like every other middle aged women in town

"Morning Steele." She sang as she finished cooking the hashbrowns

"Morning mom." I mumbled, sitting down and texting dad, telling him we were leaving in an hour. A few minutes later he walked in, his jeans and t shirt wrinkled and dirty. He sat down and ate before jogging up the stairs and a minute later the shower started

"I wish you two would work out that argument you had a couple weeks back." My mother sighed, shaking her head sadly as she washed dishes. You see, my father and I disagreed on what we should do with the farm. He and mom wanted to sell it, I wanted to keep it, work my ass off for it, then pass it a long to my children

"With all due respect... He can go to hell." I growled before making my way to my truck

"Where are you going?!" My mother screeched, running after me

"To church god dammit!" I growled, climbing into my truck and driving to the small church in town. It was a medium sized white building with a steeple and stained glass windows. After walking in, I saw Ace in a white dress with boots and a Jean jacket, her hair curled, framing her face. She was talking with Jeanie, an elder of the community. I watched as she helped Jeanie into her seat before standing up and looking my way, her eyes twinkling. A man in his 30s came up to me and shook my hand, saying it was nice to see me

"Like wise." I grinned. Once he had walked away, I saw Ace walking my way

"Hey Steele." She smiled, stopping a few feet away

"Hey." I grinned, looking down at her 5'3 frame

"I just wanted to say thank you...for helping me last night at Mcreery's party." She explained, looking down at the floor. I grinned, tapping her chin up so she was looking at me

"No problem." I chuckled as she turned red, nearly as red as her hair.

Ace

I pouted as he laughed, glaring up jokingly at his 6'4 build

"That's mean." I sulked, poking his stomach. Suddenly there was a tight grip on my wrist

"We need to talk. Now." David hissed in my ear

"No. We don't." I hissed, yanking my arm free and stepping away. His face turned red and he took a step towards me, only to have Steele step between us

"Step off David." He snarled, towering over David, who snorted with ignorance

"Careful Jobins, Steele won't always be around to play guard dog." He stated, smirking before walking over to where his parents sat

"Where are your parents?" Steele asked me, glancing at his own distastefully

"Sick, so I came in by myself." I explained

"Mind if I sit with you today? My dad and I are in a...disagreement..." He told me, motioning towards his father who was pretending his son was blatantly ignoring his presense

"Sure." I grinned, walking to the second pew and sliding over so he could sit next to me. Everything became quiet as the pastor came in and started his sermon.
