*The next morning*

Date: April 1st

Beomgyu had heard the sound of beeping so much over the past seven hours that his ears had started ringing. It was 3 a.m., and even though only seven hours had passed since they first arrived at the hospital, he felt like it was an eternity.

Seeing them shove Taehyun's father into the back of a cop car was nothing less that satisfying. But his happiness was soon overrun with fear and negativity when he saw paramedics rushing to get an unconscious Taehyun into the back of an ambulance.

Beomgyu looked at the bloody bandage covering Taehyun's forehead, then at his eyes that were peacefully closed. He couldn't help but to think that Taehyun was peaceful right now. He was in a deep sleep where he had no worries, no pain. He couldn't help but to think that sleep was Taehyun's only escape from the world.

Sure, he liked to think that Taehyun was happy with him. Taehyun was happy with him. But no matter how happy he was, there was always a negative emotion behind the glimmer in his big brown eyes.

Sadness and exhaustion from dealing with constant abuse and suffering caused by the man he was supposed to trust the most.

Even if Taehyun was happy, he could only be at peace when his conscience was fast asleep. When he couldn't think about what his life was, and how good it could be.

While thinking about that, Beomgyu smiled softly. It brought him a little bit of reassurance to know that right now, Taehyun was resting in dreamland where he could have anything he wanted.

Beomgyu looked down at his hand that was holding Taehyun's. It was so cold, but it brought Beomgyu warmth because it was Taehyun. He was here, he was alive, and he would be okay in the future. Now he can have a successful life without his dad getting in the way.

Since it was so late, Beomgyu tried to focus on the beeping to keep himself awake. Everytime he would start drifting off, the computer that beeped to the rhythm of Taehyun's heartbeat would abruptly wake him up.

Finally tired of trying to keep himself awake, he got up and went to go get a snack from the vending machine. Most of the lights were off and a couple of nurses would walk by here and there because it was pitch black outside. He wished he could just sleep like most other people were right now. He wished he and Taehyun could just sleep in a comfortable bed in a safe home.

There were so many things he wanted to do for Taehyun. So many things that he wished he could do, but he couldn't fulfill them right now.

Baby steps.

He had to take baby steps with Taehyun. He knew that. He was dealing with someone who's been through hell. He couldn't just make a bunch of big changes in his life right now. Getting rid of his dad was already a big thing. He couldn't add anything on yet.

"You're here to see her again? She hasn't gotten many visitors in the nineteen years she's been here."

"Well, I am her sister after all," the woman laughed a little bit while signing the visitor sheet.

She had become accustomed to the white, calm atmosphere of the building. Everybody was okay. There would be someone yelling here and there, but it was mainly calm.

"Right this way," someone said, leading her down the hall.

She already knew where her sister's room was though. She had visited her a few times over the past few months. The first time she was here was rough. The woman remembered her from nineteen years apart, but she was resentful and angry at everyone.

After a few minutes, they hugged though. She was fine now.

When she entered the familiar small room, she sat at the little table and stared at her older sister. She was sitting on her bed and staring out her window, quietly humming a song. She looked happy, which meant she was getting better.

Even though she couldn't possibly be genuinely happy, her depression seemed to be getting better.

"He's in prison," the younger girl said. The woman stopped humming and looked at her with a blank expression.

No amount of psychopathy could keep her from knowing it was a good thing. He deserved it. Always has.

"What about my baby?"

The girl sighed and walked over to gently hold her hands. "He's in the hospital, but he's alive. He's okay. I'll bring you home to your baby, Ms. Kang."
