The Same Day...

Not Proofread!!

All of the kids had already been picked up and Renée was now cleaning up the few messes she noticed around the classroom. She normally does all of this while everyone is napping, but she had been distracted since Novah started there.

The way she had felt so connected to her late daughter because of this little girl was starting to mess with her head. He didn't want to have any crazy thoughts, but she couldn't help herself. Novah had the exact same personality as Mayven, Renee's daughter.

After Mayven died Renee sort of lost herself. She stopped eating the first 6 weeks and they lead to her being out in the hospital for 2 months, she had many affairs when she got out, but she never signed her divorce papers so she's still legally married to the man that once loved her.

The thing she did that was s little terrifying was quit her job at one of the biggest tech companies in the city and she started her career of working with kids. She thought that maybe being surrounded by children all the time would make her think of Mayven less and less. That wasn't the case.

Her thought had gotten worse. There were instances where a child's parent(s) came late and Renée would lock up in her room with the blinds drawn just rocking the child. It had gotten to the point where many people took their daughters out of the daycare because they didn't want Renée in the same building as them.

It really wasn't until the facility started getting complaints that she calmed down. Some parents were threatening to have her arrested or have the facility shut down if the didn't do something about it. It's safe to say no one really trusted her.

So to think about the "connection" she has with Anovah made her feel like she was going backwards. She had come a long way and wasn't ready to mess that up anymore. She figured she could fight it, but it's still getting harder and harder.

A knock at her door startled her.

"Sorry about that, girl. I just wanted to see if you were getting ready to leave."

Izzy, an older woman who recently started there was making her final rounds when she noticed that only Renee's room was still lit up on her hall.

"Umm yeah. I'm just trying to get this mess cleaned up."

Izzy nodded her head and took a look around the classroom. She knew the backstory on Renée and she was actually the only one who sort of felt bad for the lady.

"Oh! I have a question that you may be able to answer for me!"

"Sure. What is it?"

"That couple that just recently started here; is that their biological child? She doesn't really look like either of them to me."

Renée was taken aback. She didn't really know herself and she'd been too caught up in her own moods and feelings to even think about something like that; she didn't even care about the parents for real.

"I'm not sure. I assume she is, though. Don't really look into things like that."

"Well okay then. I'll get out of your hair. See you tomorrow."

"Okay girl. See you!"

On the way out, something sparkly caught Izzy's attention. Renée looked as well and saw that it was one of Novah's custom made bracelets.

"Oh my! This is absolutely gorgeous!"

"Yeah it is. I'll have to see if anyone lost it."

"Of course. See ya!"

Renée waved goodbye and walked over to grab the bracelet off the side of the desk.

"I wonder who dropped this."

She carried the bracelet back to her desk and pulled out her contact book. If it looked like any other bracelet out of the hair store then she'd probably wait until the next day. However, being that it looked expensive she figured someone was probably losing their mind trying to find it.

There was only five little girls in her class, but she's never seen any of them with jewelry on except for Millie and Anovah. So she started with Millie's parents and she didn't get an answer.

"Let's try Ma- Novah's parents. Lord! What is wrong with me Today."

Dialing Farah's cell number, she was met with the ringing of the phone three times before it was picked up.

"Hello?"

"Hi! This is Renée Drayton from Tiny Steps Daycare. Am I speaking with Farah Williams?"

"Oh! Yes, this is she. How may I help you, Mrs. Drayton?"

"Yes I've found a bracelet that I assume to be Anovah's. Just wanted you to confirm if she lost one or not."

"She did! It's a sky blue topaz gemstone bracelet. We've been looking for it for about two days now."

"Well this seems to be the one! Just found it today."

"Oh thank goodness. Would you mind storing it in a safe place for us, please. We would really appreciate it."

"Of course. Or I could just bring it to you guys. That wouldn't be a hassle."

For some odd reason Renée felt the need to know where Novah laid her head at night. She wanted to know that the child was safe at all times. She felt like she had the right to know.

"Umm I'm not sure my husband and I would be okay with that, lol. Thanks, though."

"Of course! I'll place it in a safe place right now. Have a nice day, Mrs. Williams."

"You as well! And thanks again. Bye-bye!"

When the call ended, Renée felt like ripping her hair out. She wasn't okay with the way that Farah turned down her suggestion. But, she'd let it go for now; she didn't want to give off the wrong impression.
