She was making a mistake. A big mistake. Huge! What possessed her to say, yes, to seeing Lindsey? He didn't know, where she lived, he wouldn't have found her if she hadn't voluntarily given him her home address. I'm not seeing you in public, Stevie told him firmly and Lindsey just said, okay. It was just the thought of seeing him, of him being close to her again. After that first phone call, that was all Stevie could think about, so when Lindsey called again, she gave in and he didn't even have to fight her that hard. Now, however, knowing that he was going to be at her doorstep any minute, now, Stevie started having doubts. She should have listened to her brain instead of following her heart. What did she expect? How was seeing him going to close the gaping hole in her heart, when they parted ways yet again? Was hearing about Olivia, another woman in his life, going to help? Maybe she should cancel. Maybe she should-

The doorbell interrupted Stevie's train of thought. It was Lindsey. She knew that it was Lindsey. She didn't expect anyone else. With slow, unsure steps, Stevie made her way to the front door and reached for the handle. She was still hesitant even though he had already arrived.

Lindsey's heart fluttered at the sight of her. She stood right in front of him, she was real. She wasn't just a memory in his head. "H-hi." He managed after a long moment of the two of them just staring at each other.

"Hello." Stevie replied, sounding very formal as if she was talking to a complete stranger.

"Thank you for agreeing to see me." Lindsey said with a hint of a smile. "I was sure you were going to find an excuse to cancel."

"Can't say that I didn't consider doing that." Stevie told him honestly. "So, uh... would you like to come in?" She asked, taking a step back.

He entered the house, looking around. "You've got a nice place."

"Thanks to Michael. He was the one, who moved out after the divorce. Well, way before that actually." She added as they remained in the foyer, silent yet again. "I-I'm not sure that..." She swallowed uneasily. "That this was a good idea."

"Why not?" Lindsey rushed to ask in case she was about to make him leave. "I'm just here as your friend, Stevie. I've missed you. I couldn't just ignore the fact that you're so close to me. I had to see you."

"How's Olivia doing?" Stevie immediately changed the subject and heard Lindsey sigh. "Obviously, I haven't heard from her."

"Neither have I." Lindsey shrugged, hands in his jeans pockets. "To be honest, I haven't really made an effort to contact her either."

"Well, why not? You have to-"

"Stevie." Lindsey held up a hand. "Please, do not tell me what I have to do. I'm old enough to make my own decisions. She needed space and left. I've decided that I need that, too. Whatever you believe you know about our relationship, well, you don't. Let me make my choices."

There was really nothing she could say after that. He was right. She really had no say in that. "Can I get you something to drink?" Stevie spoke up after a short while as if nothing had been said after their hellos.
