It felt like an annoying mosquito was buzzing by Stevie's ear for the past half an hour or so. She tried swatting it away, but it found its way back every time. Only that it wasn't a tiny parasite, but the man she was going to call her husband just hours later.
"Wake up." Lindsey repeated for what seemed like the hundredth time. "Stevie." He placed his hand on her shoulder and shook her gently. "Hey, come on. Wake up."
"I'm awake. I have been for a while now, because you won't stop bothering me." She attempted to move away and closer to the edge of the bed. "Lindsey, seriously. I need every minute of sleep I can get. We have a huge day today."
"Yeah, I know." He said, no intention of letting her drift off again. "And the only time I'm gonna see you is when we're exchanging rings. So..."
"So, what?" Stevie rolled onto her back and barely opened her eyes, but it was enough to tell him that she wasn't amused. "Is this really how you want to start today?"
"Not really." Lindsey shook his head and his hand rested on her hip under the covers.
"Oh, hell no." She pushed his hand away. "Besides, we're supposed to do it after we get married."
"Again, I've had you naked in all sorts of positions a thousand times." He said and leaned in to softly kiss her neck. "We're probably going to be too tired and too wasted by the end of the night anyway."
"I hate you."
"Well, that's not very nice." Lindsey replied, moving to press light kisses across her chest. "But why?"
"Because I can't say no to you." A small smile crossed her lips and she brought her hand up to run it through his curls. "And that's probably not a good thing."
"I disagree." He grinned and in one swift motion positioned himself in between her legs. "You love me."
"Of course, I do." She said, cradling his face in her hands, she pulled him in for a kiss.
Unfortunately, they didn't get much further than that. Just minutes later, they were interrupted by a knock on the door. Lindsey groaned and pressed his face between Stevie's breasts, which made her suppress a laugh.
"Maybe if we stay quiet-" Lindsey started, but he didn't get to finish.
"Honey, are you up already?" Barbara asked from the other side of the door. "If you're not, it's about time you wake up. We have a lot to do. I'll have breakfast ready shortly and then we've got to start getting you ready for the ceremony."
"I'm up, mom." Stevie sighed and gave Lindsey an apologetic look.
"Oh, great! Seems like your fiancé is too, the guestroom's door is wide open and the room is already empty."
Their eyes grew wide as they stared at each other.
"You didn't close it last night?"
"I didn't think I had to." Lindsey shook his head. "Christ, we're two adults, this is ridiculous."
"Sweetheart, is everything alright?" Barbara knocked again then reached for the door handle.
"I'm fine!" Stevie rushed to say. "Please, do not come in. I'm- I'm changing."
"Oh, alright. Well, see you downstairs." Her mother said and the sound of her footsteps let them know that they were okay.
"Seriously." Lindsey rolled his eyes and moved to get up. "I had no idea that this was going to be such a big deal."
"Neither did I, but it's clearly important to her." Stevie shrugged and approached him on her knees, she wrapped her arms around him and pressed herself against his back. "And I would appreciate it if you didn't say anything."
"Alright, alright." Lindsey nodded and took her hand, he kissed her palm. "See you in the kitchen, I guess, since I'm not here."
"I love you." Stevie smiled and kissed his cheek.
