Stevie stirred from her sleep at the sound of Lily in the room next to hers. She went to bed much later than she was used to nowadays and she had trouble keeping her eyes open. She moved to sit up, but before she could do that, she felt Lindsey's hand on her shoulder and a kiss on her cheek.
"It's fine, I'll go." Lindsey assured, allowing her to go back to sleep. Stevie smiled lazily and gave him a wave goodbye as if he was heading out of the house.
He had already missed out on so much, so getting up early and tending to his daughter was something he looked forward to each day. Several weeks had passed since he found out he was father and he could easily say that those weeks had been the happiest of his life so far.
"Hey there." Lindsey smiled at Lily, who was staring right back at him with her little arms up, waiting to be picked up. "Did you sleep well, huh?" If the grin on the girl's face was any indication, then yes, she did. "Come on, let's go, say, hi, to mommy."
With Lily in his arms, Lindsey walked out of the room and nearly collided with Amber. "Gosh, I'm so sorry! I just woke up and I-"
"It's okay." Lindsey waved it off. "No harm done."
"I'm not used to you being here in the mornings yet." Amber said, but not in a way that would suggest she didn't like having him there. "You've made my mom really happy, you know."
"I-" Lindsey wanted to reply, but Stevie's voice interrupted him.
"I'm not deaf. If you want to talk about me, keep your voices down." She said, making the two laugh lightly.
"I'm going downstairs to start the coffee." Amber change the subject immediately.
"Please." Lindsey nodded and watched her turn around, he reentered the bedroom with Lily. The second her eyes lay on her mother, Lily nearly fell out of Lindsey's arms. "Jeez, I guess, we know, who's the favorite parent."
"I'm sure, she'll turn into a daddy's girl soon, give it time." Stevie smiled, sitting up against the headboard.
Lindsey got back into bed as well, when Lily made herself comfortable on her mother's chest. He scooted over closer to Stevie and rested his head on her shoulder. "I can't believe how quickly she's claimed such a massive chunk of my heart."
"I know." Stevie nodded and reached for his hand. "I just hope, there's still space for me."
"A tiny bit." Lindsey teased, showing with his fingers. "But speaking of..." He cleared his throat to prolong the pause. "You haven't really answered my question. Well, it wasn't a question, but..."
"What do you mean?" Stevie asked, facing him, her free hand combing through Lily's hair.
"That night, at the park." He continued. "When I said that I want you, that I want us back together."
"Do you honestly need me to spell it out for you?" Stevie was surprised he hadn't yet realized they were very much back together.
"Kinda, yeah." Lindsey nodded, slowly brushing the tips of his fingers along the length of her arm. "I don't want to start telling people that I've got the hottest girlfriend without actually knowing that I do."
Stevie chuckled and cupped his cheek, she pulled him in for a kiss. "Don't over exaggerate it, but..." She bit into her bottom lip, then nodded her head. "Yeah, you do have a girlfriend."
