Chapter 22 Evelyn part 2

Third person's pov

Meera stood still, she was unable to grasp the fact that Elijah's sister was willing to help her. No, it was not the case, she thought. There has to be a catch. She won't fall for any trap. And she doesn't need anyone's help.

"I don't need your help"

voices out Meera staring down a poker-faced Evelyn who made no move except look Meera in her eyes. Meera knows not to trust anyone other than herself and everything was at stake.

"I know you won't tell Elijah anything"

states Meera confidently at which Evelyn raises a perfect brow in dark humor.

"If you can recall I clearly presented two options of either telling my brother or the other one helping you, Meera"

asserts Evelyn. Meera contemplates the situation at hand. How on earth did she land in this was beyond her. Thinking hard, Meera tried to decide her situation at best.

"What will you gain from helping me?"

questions Meera at last which was weighing on her. Evelyn crooked a smile, teeth on display. In a flash, she was hugging Meera, fake sobbing on her shoulder, expressing,

"I can't let my brother spend his life with a vile woman like you, sister-in-law!"

Meera felt uncomfortable hearing her made-up excuse. Evelyn changing her mood was discomforting. It made it hard for her to understand Evelyn properly and her motives. She knows Evelyn is lying.

"Tell me the real reason, Evelyn"

demands Meera trying to move out of the forced hug from the said fox. Smiling, Evelyn kissed her cheek. Meera rubbed the skin where she kissed feeling revoked. Evelyn really was testing her patience. Pretending hurt, Evelyn placed a hand on her chest, saying,

"You hurt me, I was being honest sister-in-law"

"Stop your drama! Will you? I am fed up!"

Meera said irked by her constant deflection from the matter at hand. Her whole plan was at stake for this brat to just show disinterest. Laughing, Evelyn speaks,

"Are you really? Sister-in-law, I sincerely don't want my brother to get hurt by you"

"And helping me will not hurt him?"

fires back Meera feeling irritation bubble inside her.

"You don't understand sister in law, my brother is madly obsessed with you to the extent of chaining you in his room. So if you hurt him, he still will keep you to him and avenge. I am doing you both a favor here in making sure you don't become a prisoner and him a psychopath in rejected love"

says Evelyn smiling innocently at Meera. Meera knew what she said was true, Elijah was totally capable of doing that but her plan was not it, hurting Elijah kind of will happen in the process. As if seeing the doubt on Meera's face, Evelyn asks,

"Is this not to your liking sister-in-law? You don't believe me?"

"No, not a single word. I know you are hiding your real intentions from me. Just so you know I won't take your help until you tell me your real motive"

said Meera firmly with all seriousness. Evelyn looks silently at Meera thinking. Sighing, she finally speaks,

"You won't understand Meera, something happened in the past that made me into the Evelyn you are seeing now"

"And it has something to do with Elijah"

guesses Meera seeing all playfulness leave Evelyn and how her shoulder has stiffened. Evelyn nods, continuing,

"Don't ask me about it. Only know that it hurt me deeply that I want Eli to feel that too"

"Why do I feel that you are acting this up?"

doubts Meera keenly observing Evelyn who bursts out in a fit of laughter. After a good minute with Meera glaring at her, she sobers up. Chuckling, she expresses,

"I am amazed. You are the only one who could tell when I am acting"

"Stop all your nonsense! I am done with you!"

shouts Meera in utter frustration. Turning around she tries to go out of the room but halts on her way when Evelyn admits,

"Yes, I have a motive which includes you moving out of my brother's life"

She continues seeing Meera standing and waiting for her,

"I did say the truth about something happening in the past because of someone dear to us both, my brother and I. And I don't like you Meera. You will hurt my brother more if you stayed in his life. So, I am discarding you from his life before the past repeats itself"

Turning around, Meera sees that Evelyn is serious and honest this time. Confused, she questions her,

"What do you mean?"

Evelyn shook her head in denial tells her,

"I can't tell you"

"You have to if you want me to trust you enough to accept your help"

argues Meera feeling her nerves worked up. She can't believe what she was hearing. For all, she knows it can be a trap of webs of lies and truths.

"I can only tell you that my brother loved her, more than his life and she betrayed him because of that he is the Elijah you know"

admits Evelyn, her eyes fixed on Meera showing her sincerity. Meera can finally see the broken girl behind all the facade Evelyn put on, hurt and the pain was evident in her like a shadow. Meera knew she was testing the water but still, she stated,

"You are taking revenge from Elijah"

"Yes, I am! He deserves it after what he put me through and after he made me suffer!"

shouts Evelyn losing her composure. Meera stands still shocked hearing the desperation in Evelyn's voice. She doesn't know what to make out of this. She hears Evelyn say,

"I was waiting for an opportunity and look you came. Perfect for me that Eli is crazy about you. He will know when I will throw you out of his life the immense pain and hurt I felt. He will know. He has to know!"

"But he is your brother"

Meera doesn't know why she said that but she felt bad for Elijah and had an urge in her for protecting him from the betrayal of Evelyn which will surely hurt him a ton.

"And I was his sister! Why didn't he believe me, his sister? No, nothing can stop me now, not even you. If you don't agree with me I will still take revenge on him"

shouts Evelyn with eyes full of hate. Meera was left contemplating. She didn't want to agree with Evelyn. She didn't want Elijah to suffer because of Evelyn however that sound coming from her who herself was deceiving him. God, it's so complicated. Meera thought about Elijah loving someone before her if what Evelyn said was true. She felt a weird burn in her chest thinking Elijah loved someone. Ignoring it, she focused on Evelyn waiting for her decision. She wondered who that someone was, and what it has to do with Evelyn. She so badly wanted to know but it will only weaken her resolve and Evelyn already refused to tell her. Also, Evelyn will still take her revenge, she thought. It will only make her plan fail if she refused Evelyn's help. No way, she will let that happen. It was clear as day what she has to do. Meeting Evelyn's eyes, she announced,

"I accept your help"

Evelyn smiled which was so sinister to her eyes. Meera felt she did something irreversibly bad. Shaking the bad feeling out of her body, she smiled back at Evelyn. But they both froze in their place in horror the next second when a voice interrupted them,

"Doe?"
