"Imagine this: it's down to you and Nikolas, and you're Cassie," Mom said.
"What is this?" I asked. "Some stupid rom-com or—"
"On one hand, you have Nikolas, who was initially cold, but has shown to have a real soft spot for you, who gives you nice things, and who gives you special attention. On the other hand—there's you."
"You sound like you've stepped on a cockroach," I said.
"Coleman, unlike Nikolas, has not done anything nice for you. Ever."
"That's not tr—"
"He ignores you, bullies you, really, rejects you, sleeps around with other women, and has overall given very little encouragement that he has any legitimate interest." She rose an eyebrow. "Who would you choose?"
