Rosie's pov
"That's it" Jisoo stands up as she walks up to me. "We are leaving this stupid dinner. Thank you for the invitation" she says as she bends over, offering to carry a now crying Ji-Ae into her arms as I signal her that I would like very much for Lili to be in my arms. She needs me. She fucking needs me in time like this.
"You can't leave" my Halmoni says like my sister just proposed the craziest idea in the world. "Oh yes, we can" Jennie collects her Chanel shoulder bag.
She then looks at Suzy who is doing the same. "In fact, all of us are going together and we would be very much grateful to leave you behind here"
"Did you see that, Hyeun - Jae?" my Halmoni asks my dad. "Did you see how your family treats me? Like I'm a piece of garbage?"
"Eomma, please"
"You know what, Rosie"
Halmoni scolds again as I hug my Lili. She doesn't say anything and that worries me a lot.
"You okay, baby?" I kiss her head. "I'm here, don't be afraid"
"Rosie, let's go" my big brother says as she helps me to my feet but before I can even walk away, everyone pauses as Lisa walks in with my purse in her hand.
Her face is red and this is the first time that I ever see her in that way. There is something in her eyes when I stare into them as they briefly scan mine.
Fire.
There's fire in that brown pond I enjoy looking. And I know it's going to be. I feel it when she asks Ji-Ae from Jisoo and proceeds to take a step forward in front of me.
"With all due respect" she begins to speak and there's like a total silence inside the room. "I was planning to originally come here to drop Rosie's purse because she left it at home" she puts a certain weight on the word home and I couldn't help but to smile.
"But I spent a really great five minutes standing at the door of your private dining" she pauses before pausing for a moment as if she is trying to decipher what's happening.
"And I heard everything you said to my family" she takes a deep breath as she holds my hand and I let her. My whole damn family stares at us, particularly my mom.
"But I'll tell you this ma'am, that everything you said to Rosie and our two girls are never incorrect at all. You're wrong to assume that Rosie has to be Lili's birth mother for the baby to love her. In fact, she has already loved her as much as she loves our Ji-Ae" she pauses as she looks at me lovingly.
"And I know this is not the right moment for me to say anything to her" she takes a deep breath before releasing it back seconds later.
"But if you're afraid of Rosie staining your noble family lineage by still using your family name or whatsoever then" she holds my hand tightly before releasing it back a moment later and her hand travels almost immediately to the back of her pocket.
