Chapter 46:

---

After providing a direction for Tsaringrad, to drive the city away from any further dangers, Blitz notices from down the street: his soldiers, rescue workers, paramedics, policemen, deserted Ursus legionnaires, and good samaritans helping those who have been trapped under piles of rubble and refuse from the buildings that have been destroyed by Ursus artillery bombardment.

Since the city is safe from additional threats, for now, Blitz can't afford to have the city they've recently conquered be in such a state of disarray. His intention was to save the city, after all, not destroy it. This forces Blitz, Philip, Texas, Croissant, and Exusiai to leave the bridge to assist with the search and rescue operations happening from below.

Before they leave the bridge, Blitz picks up Ace's ash pouch, which has most of its contents scattered all over. Blitz pinches the bottom of the bag and felt that there's some ash still inside, but the bag itself is shriveled and partially empty. He sighs sorrowfully before rolling the ash pouch, tying it shut, and pockets it.

His companions stare at him with sympathy and guilt, while Philip is indifferent considering he has no idea how much Ace meant to him. With no further delay, they leave the bridge and descend a floor. They then enter the disabled-only elevator and chose the ground floor.

While in the elevator, Blitz is slowly moving and stretching each limb he has, to make sure he won't be weak while extending help – occasionally due to his injuries, he groans and often bowls over. Exusiai is always the one to assist him while he's in pain, always the loyal partner she is.

Croissant gives Exusiai back her gun, which still has several bullets left. The gun can be used to blast open locks that aren't durable, but she needs to be careful to not hit anyone trapped behind the door.

Speaking of Croissant, she removes her brass knuckles, then flexes her arms, confident in her strength to lift heavy objects off of a person.

Texas, meanwhile, is grimacing at Philip with a theatrical look of disdain and disgust as he can be seen licking himself as a four-legged feline would do.

"Stop that, you don't have any fur, and that's just unsanitary," she exclaims.

"Yeah, I know, but I just like the taste of blood on my clothes," Philip answers, with a tone that says he's serious. He then continues to lick the blood off his armor, and since he can't sit down, he wipes the hard-to-bend-down-to-lick residue with his hand, then licks said hand.

Texas steps away from Philip and then looks at Blitz as if trying to say that she hates being around his eccentric subordinates. Blitz turns to her, tightens his lips, and shrugs, also bewildered that he's surrounded himself with people of... extraordinary traits.

After a while, they made it to the ground floor, where in just a nick of time, it has been converted into a field hospital. Paramedics are tending to civilians, New Reunion soldiers, and Ursurian Legionnaires alike; they are situated on makeshift beddings, usually made out of Blitz's troops' bedrolls, very long blankets, stretchers – handmade or otherwise, and mattresses they probably took from stores.
