Not the Way I Planned

"Fuck! Yes." Breathy moans come out distressed.

He thrusts his body awkwardly, grabbing onto the bed frame for support.

I cringe, my nose scrunching.

"Oh yeah, baby. Fuck, fuck!"

"Guys! Can you turn off your porn? I'm trying to eat!" Naomi shouts from the kitchen. "You all are shameless!" I ignore her.

"Too bad!" Devin shouts back at her. "Avocado toast taste like ass anyway!"

Naomi gasps. "You take that—"

"Both of you shut up!" I shout, frustrated.

Come on! One of them has to say something!

"Maybe—"

"Shh!" My hand covers Rowan's mouth. My eyes glued to the laptop.

"Come with me." The man on the tape says.

"Wait," The woman breathes heavy, her eyes rolling. "I'm not ready." The woman's face contorts.

Ew. Gross.

"To the Ball I mean. Your body is perfect to show off." He grunts.

My eyes roll. Men. Of course he isn't going to let a woman finish. How predictable.

"Where?"

"Shh! Shh." No one is talking. I don't know why I shush everyone.

It's taken years to finally figure out where my papà is. It's taken years to figure out a way to get in contact with him. And still I can't. Every time I try, I get stuck. My papà practically doesn't exist online. A shadow of a person. I've had to find people he's come into contact with and go from there.

It's taken years but finally, I found a way to finally see him. A Ball that happens once every year. I've heard he's supposed to be there. I just need to know where it's being hosted.

His thrust are slower, he's partly out of breath. "It's in Italy this year." He lays out an address.

I can feel my heart beating through my chest.

Italy. It's in Italy. That means he has to be there.

"Oh fuck!" Devin shakes my shoulders. His excitement for me makes me smile widely.

The pair finishes or at least he does. They lay, out of breath together in their hotel bed. "Didn't their Don go like crazy?" The woman asks in a huff of air.

My bones feels stiff.

"Yes." He replies. "They haven't been to anything for the past ten years after his daughter was taken by his own mother. They're crazy over there. The event is in memory of her sixteenth birthday." I feel tears start to prick my eyes but I pull them back.
