"professor, i honestly think the new kid would be perfect for the experiments. he's both healthy other than the defects and seemingly willing."

"really? well if you think so, i can definitely start the plan to get him into our hands."

"how will you do that? i don't think you could like go to his house and ask him or something."

"simple. we can just bring him to us. it'll be discreet."

"how?"

"just watch, seokmin. you can do anything with enough money."

"hey seokmin, can you help me walk to class?"

seokmin nodded and hooked his arm with joshua's "sure thing."

seokmin was confused and it wasn't because he now suddenly got a scene told in his perspective besides the lab scenes even though this is a vernon-centric book.

it was because of what the professor told him mere paragraphs ago.

how will professor wen discreetly meet joshua and what did money have to do with it?

seokmin pondered this as he and joshua walked down the busy hallways towards the science classroom. thankfully, most students had respect to get out of the way once they saw the blind boy make his way down the hallway with his cane. seokmin was glad because he didn't want to have to yell at people to get out of the way just so joshua's life would be a lot easier.

speaking of joshua, the two kind of had an interesting relationship.

they've only known each other for a few days, but they've stuck together for all the time they've been at school. it could be said that it was only because seokmin volunteered to show him around the school and that he was trying to gauge whether or not joshua would be perfect for the professor's experiments, but seokmin honestly found joshua's personality and company kind of nice.

seokmin knew he shouldn't though. after all, he can't have feelings for a test subject that has the potential to literally die after experimentation.

here come the doubts once again.

seokmin knew that it was probably very ethically wrong to give up a literal human to this, especially since joshua seemed like such a nice kid... but, the internship. he couldn't give it up because of the opportunities it will give for his life. he could get any job in science he ever wanted with that fact on his resume. he could do so many great things with this experience because of what it means to the world. his future was practically covered in gold with this internship.
