12: Lies

Okay, so I couldn't explain the whole rank wars avatar thing in detail, but basically imagine it like the rank wars from World Trigger (anime).

I kinda just copied it without the special weapons and cool stuff like the Grasshopper, Scorpion, Meteor, etc.

Also I forgot to mention this, but that voice in Sophie's head is kind of like the Great Sage in Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken. (Also an anime).

"Ridiculous." Vespera's voice was as cold and detached as usual. The numb Empath was seated at one end of the rectangular table that was in the middle of the dark senior council meeting room.

"Close your mouth," Gisela—at the other end of the table—ordered.

Sophie leaned back in her chair, her face the picture of disinterest as she glanced between the two women. They were always arguing, causing quite the fierce verbal disputes within the council's meetings.

Across from Sophie sat Fintan and Gethen—both of them probably having placed bets on today's Gisela vs Vespera battle before they came in—and beside her was Pixel, thus concluding the six member senior council.

"So, Ales, you were attacked by a woman named Irily?" Fintan asked, breaking the glaring match between Gisela and Vespera.

"Yup." Sophie glanced over her nails. "She claimed to be the daughter of the Queen herself."

"Did you kill her?" Gisela asked.

Sophie looked down the table at those ice blue eyes. They were too much like Keefe's for her liking. She had made to think of what to say beforehand, knowing she would be asked that question—but meeting Gisela's gaze made her nervous.

Her Discesion ability spoke up.

NOTICE: BOTH OF YOUR CONSIDERED OPTIONS HAVE A HIGH CHANCE OF ENDING IN DRAMATIC PUNISHMENT.

I know, Sophie said irritably.

RECOMMENDATION: MERGING THE TWO EXPLANATIONS HOLDS THE HIGHEST PROBABILITY OF ENDING THIS MEETING WITH YOUR BLOOD STILL WITHIN YOUR BODY.

You sound like you don't want that to happen.

Silence.

You're absolutely kidding right?! You want me to die?!

Silence.

And then,

WELL, YOU'RE ANNOYING.

I cannot believe I ended up with such a stupid voice in my head, Sophie complained.

She cast Gisela an easy look. "I couldn't kill her."

Fintan whistled. Pixel gave her a look that read, Do you wanna die or something, kid? 

She replied, Trust me on this one.

"Keefe Sencen interrupted before I could finish the job," Sophie explained. "I sent her back to her kingdom before he could see what happened."

Pixel gave her an amused look. She winked.

Lady Gisela unclenched her fist—yikes, that was close—and placed her hand delicately on her lap. "Very well, Ales. Let us hope your next mission does not end in failure."

"So why are you here, exactly?" Elwin asked as he began placing elixirs inside the cabinet beside his desk.
