(31) CHAPTER XXXI

—ASSESSING THE UNFORESEEN—

White clouds of smoke were all around him as if someone had dropped gas bombs in the middle of the forest. He couldn't see anything but white no matter how much he flapped his arms he wasn't able to get rid of the puffs

Closing his eyes, inhaling and exhaling a growing guttural growl the true alpha heightened his senses focusing on his surroundings and across the perimeter

He listened to every little sound produced. Leaves ruffling with a blow of wind in the breezy night, crickets chirping, unseen frogs croaking, creatures pitter-pattering, insects buzzing, birds flapping their wings, trees pulsating in process of osmosis he listened to it all and filtered irrelevant susurrus. He exerted his olfactory glands to catch a sniff of toasted marshmallows and soon he successfully caught a faint whiff of that sweet, saccharine scent followed by the light sound of rustling.

All of this happened in a few seconds and the alpha was already off in the direction he caught his omega's scent.

Passing through the trees in a flash, his eyes were still ruby red, feet running, senses staying heightened.

Jungkook was able to make out the hint of fear in that scent but he caught another whiff of blood, it was alarming and so his pace increased with the impending danger. The scent was getting stronger with every microsecond, he could almost taste the metallic taste on his tongue.

He reached the source in an instant. The sight he rushed to had him struck with shock and horror.

The first thing he noticed was the same recurring stench of blood that now strongly engulfed him and spotted where it was coming from. It was the body of a boy who attacked them lying dead on his back with hands stretched and eyes wide open. Blood was pooled around his head on the ground and besides that body was the round blurry image he focused on spotting the omega who had his back showing to the body

Taehyung was on his knees, eyes rolled back, blinking furiously against a palm close to his face. Jungkook perceived it belonged to a dark-cloaked figure that was standing in front of the omega practicing sorcery

The alpha was shunned for a moment at the frightening sight and in an instance, the figure turned his head to face him, the hood covered half of his head but the alpha was sure the person was staring at him. Lips stretched showing a sinister smirk, white teeth creating eerie contrast under the black sky. The figure raised its hand that had the omega under its spell and clicked its fingers vanishing into the thin air right in front of the alpha's eyes.

The fall of Taehyung caught the alpha's diverted attention who ran to him as soon as his eyes flicked back to his unconscious form and took him in his arms dropping to his knees as well, holding him close to his chest

"Tae, Taehyung, sweetheart wake up" Jungkook patted his cheeks frightened "Tae, please" his eyes welled up

The tan skin of the omega looked darker in the night, eyes closed with long lashes touching the eye bags beneath it, silver locks stuck to forehead, licorice lips chapped and parted. His current state and the looks of it had only increased Jungkook's anxiety as he shook him to consciousness and fortunately his glimmer of hope in the dark night shone

The omega's eyes twitched "Tae! Wake up, please" Jungkook pleaded and the omega's eyes blinked open.

"A-alpha" Taehyung looked at Jungkook with half-lidded eyes.
