Chapter 59: Sequence Of Events (Part 3)

Emma reported her situation to the captain.
Emma - "Reporting team 2 has rescued a civilian who will guide us to the rest of the hostages."
"Also, one more kidnapper was shot dead in the rescue process."
Captain - "Ask him quickly and tell me which team is on the route to encounter the other civilians. "
"Also, does he know if they are guarding the hostages?"
Ronald, questioned by Emma, quickly answered that they usually don't care much about the other hostages except him.
Emma - "Why is that?"
Ronald - "The kidnappers are very arrogant, so they left the others unguarded cause they don't think anyone will come to this god-forsaken forest."
Ronald then told them the route he took when being separated from the others.
Mike quickly informed the captain, "He told us that the left route leads to the other hostages, so Team 1 is the one on their way to the other hostages."
Captain - "Okay, team 2, continue to follow the civilian and go back up for team 1."
"Team 1 continues exploring but slow down your pace and do not engage without backup. It is not confirmed that there will be no guards."
Marry - "Yes, captain, we will await backup."
Toby - "What about me?"
Captain - "Toby, continue down your path but stay alert as you might encounter the other two kidnappers at any time."
Toby - "Yes, captain."
Captain - "All right then, everyone, keep me posted and execute the given orders."
Once the call ended, Jake couldn't help but lament to Mary, "I won't lie. I feel things have been going far too smoothly, and something is fishy."
Mary - "You are just overthinking, Jake."
Jake - "I hope so. Mary, I really do."
Meanwhile, Emma, Mike, and Ronald had exited the central passage and started heading inside the left passageway.
Jake and Mary then continued down the path for a while but didn't find any traces of other hostages.
Jake - "How big is this cave?"
Marry - "I know, right? The cave looked so small from the outside."
Jake - "Ha, the cave looked so small from the outside the title of your..."
Jake's words were soon interrupted by Emma, "Peralta, were you saying something."
Jake pouted and replied to the blonde Emma, "Nothing. I was just wondering when you did show up."
Mike - "Well, no need to wonder. We are here now, aren't we?"
Mary - "So this is the civilian you rescued?"
Mike smiled proudly and said, "Yes, his name is Ronald."
Jake looked at Ronald carefully and couldn't help but rub his eyes.
Emma - "What happened, Peralta?"
Jake - "I swear he looks very familiar. It is as if I have seen him before."
Mary - "Yeah, he does. I was going to say the same thing."
Ronald - "Well, my dad is a famous and rich businessman, so you might have seen me with him in some article."
Ronald was clearly sweating like crazy, and even a fool could make out that he was hiding something.
Jake, who abruptly remembered everything, said, "You can't really have a rich dad, Paul, or did you forget you are an orphan."
Paul immediately reached out and grabbed Mike's gun, snatching it right from his hands.
Jake, who knew this might happen, immediately shot at Paul before he could do anything with Mike's gun.
Paul, who was shot in the stomach, couldn't help but stumble and fall.
However, before he fell, he clicked the gun's trigger and shot a bullet right at Mike's left leg.
Mike - "AAaAahHHhhaa shit, that hurt."
Mike quickly fell onto his knees in pain, which just caused it to hurt even more.
Mike then tried to cover the bleeding in his left leg by applying pressure, but the blood kept seeping out like a fountain.
He looked at his leg and the blood on the ground and soon fell unconscious.
Emma, who understood what just transpired but couldn't believe it asked in shock, "What just happened?"
Jake - "I just saved Mike's life is what."
Jake then squatted down towards Mike's flat body.
Jake - "Marry, come on, chop chop, we gotta turn him upside down so I can see the wound clearly."
Mary then helped pick up Mike's body and turn it upside down.
The sudden movement woke up the unconscious Mike.
Mike - "What are you doing to me?"
Jake - "Covering the wound to stop the bleeding."
Jake removed a plastic bag containing white cotton balls and a clean cloth from his pocket.
Jake instructed Mary before starting, "Be on the lookout. This might have been an attempt by Paul to lead us to the other two robbers."
"Plus, Mike's scream might have alerted them already, so they will either escape or come this way."
Mary - "Okay, I will."
Marry followed Jake's orders and stood on guard to ensure their safety.
Jake then took the white cotton ball out and wrapped it around Mike's open wound with the help of the clean cloth.
Then started the endless noises of Mike screaming in pain. Luckily during
Hearing Mike's scream, Emma soon returned to her senses and asked, "How did you know he was one of them?"
Jake - "Like I said, I have researched these guys thoroughly and know them very well."
"Also, I should be the one asking you questions."
"I was told that everyone was briefed on the sketch artist's sketches."
"How did you two even fall for his nonsense? If I hadn't figured it out, we all might have been dead by now."
Emma, who was getting scolded left and right by Peralta, couldn't say a word as she knew how grave of a mistake she and Mike had committed.
Mary, who saw Emma was feeling guilty, interrupted Peralta and said, "We all make mistakes. Calm down. I think we need to first report this situation to the captain."
Jake - "You are right, Mary. They probably escaped if they haven't come yet, so there might be a passage connecting to the surface."
"All our efforts can't go to waste."
Jake then turned on his walkie-talkie to alert the captain.
