"Does everyone have a towel?" JJ asked as we stepped onto the boat.
We all responded with a yes as he unmoored the boat. He hopped on and went up to the wheel. I grabbed a seat in the front as he pulled away from the dock.
Today was extremely hot. It was a little past twelve and the sun was shining, not a cloud in the sky. It was the perfect day to go out on the ocean.
Finn was in charge of the cooler this time and stocked it full of drinks and we considered heading back to the marina if we ever got hungry.
A short ride down the Savannah River and we've reached Tybee Island. From there JJ just drove out to sea. There were a lot of people who had the same idea as us today.
A lot of speed boats from what I could tell.
"It's so fucking hot Em." Hannah complained, resting her head on my shoulder.
I wiped the small beads of sweat off my forehead. "I know. Even the breeze is barely helping."
I gathered my hair in my hands and pulled it over my shoulder, exposing my neck in hopes to cool myself down.
The effort helped but it only rewarded me with a few seconds of relief. I saw Finn over by the cooler. "Finn." I called out his name.
"Yeah?" he replies.
"Can you pass me two waters?" I ask, shading my eyes with my hand.
He nodded and reached into the cooler, pulling out two bottles of water. He tossed me one and then the other. I opened the one I had in my left hand and took a very much needed sip.
I placed the other bottle on Hannah's forehead. "Oh my god." she mumbled before taking the bottle from my hand.
"Tyler, where's the music?" Jackson asked.
"Yeah, c'mon man this boat is silent!" Finn mentioned.
I laughed and pulled my shirt over my head. I was eager to get a decent tan today. School has been useless because I usually throw on a t-shirt and shorts, which have left noticeable tan lines I need to fix.
Immediately.
Nate and Tyler were on their phones trying to make a playlist, Elliot and Kayla were taking the only two spots in the shade, JJ was driving, and the rest of the boys were in their own conversation.
Me and Hannah were honestly overheating. We applied sunscreen before we left, yet I feel like I'm burning.
I don't know how much longer I can last sitting here.
Luckily, JJ stopped the boat a few minutes later and anchored us in place. This was the exact moment Kayla came storming my way and sat next to me with a huff.
"What's with the face?" I ask.
"Your brother is pissing me off." she complains in a low tone.
I laugh. "What'd he do?"
"He won't tell me where we're going tonight." she explains shortly.
"You guys are going on a date tonight?" I ask to clarify.
"He just told me he was taking me somewhere. But I need more information if I want to dress appropriately and not look stupid." she stressed.
"Well, I can't tell you with the amount of money he has on himself, casual should do just fine." I smile.
"You're probably right." she admits and we both laugh.
I look away from her and around the boat. The smile on my face faltered almost immediately when my eyes landed on Jackson. My eyes darted away and looked over the edge of the boat.
