Jackson's POV

I'm an idiot.

I told myself I would end this bet, not have her join it. I wanted to end this as soon as possible, but I rushed too fast, accusing her. And now I have a bigger problem on my hands.

Because she doesn't want to lose, and I definitely don't want to lose. Which has me thinking this can either end during these three days or go on for a few months. And as much as I don't like it, I'm pretty sure it's the latter.

To make matters worse, being down here hasn't helped. She may act like she knows everything, but she's oblivious to half the shit going on around her.

Like the guy who was obviously flirting with her at the bike rentals. Asking her to go to a party my ass. I swear I saw him take a peek below her face as he was talking with her. The thought of it infuriated me.

Just like now. We're walking through town to go to this restaurant Sabine found and I watched every guy who passed by break their necks to look back at her again. And for fuck's sake she has no idea.

It astonishes me that she's able to draw so much attention. She may think she knows the amount of guys she attracts, but not even half the guys I see look at her actually go up to talk to her.

I mean most of them that try scour away at my glare, but some challenge me and talk to her anyways.

Props to the ones that do, but they're all assholes. I knew Eric was trouble the moment she couldn't take her eyes off him. His mouth in the locker room was atrocious, but it's not like I could tell her. She wouldn't even take the time to listen to me.

And now do what I've always done and shoot the guys daggers, some ignore me, but others bow their heads as an apology. Idiots.

I don't know when I started noticing all of this and I don't know when I started caring. All I know is that we're both in this bet, which means I need her to pay attention to me. Not the idiots who pass her on the streets.

So that's exactly why I chose to sit next to her tonight. She gave me one of her glares, but I sat there like I didn't see it. Everyone around us was talking, but we were silent.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned it yet.

I swing my foot around her ankle to pull her towards me. Her seat was a little too far away for me to talk to her without the others hearing. Of course, she fought back, kicking my foot away, but I always went back.

It was a silent struggle but eventually she was a whispers distance. "Are you sure you want to do this?" I ask.

There was a small laugh that left her lips. The lips that almost kissed me an hour ago. But I knew I was in the wrong because I went for it. And she pulled away with the most victorious smile.

So fuck me and my forbidden want to kiss her again.

Because the visions of that night got worse throughout the day. And way too vivid for me not to notice. I don't know if my brain is making it feel better than it was, but the only way to find that out was to do the obvious. To kiss her-again.

But after that encounter back at the house, I knew I had to up my game to even get another chance.

"Never been more sure in my life." she taunts as she looks me in the eye.

I give her a grin before we go silent again and I notice she's been doing that more often. Keeping eye contact with me. Not sure why all of the sudden things have changed, but I'm not complaining.

I give her one last look before crossing my ankle over hers again.

Game on Em.
