"Your majesty, the hunters are everywhere... You're going to have to use your abilities if we stand a chance," Landon said, glancing around and blocking an attack.
Jaxyn's eyes widened. "No... Surely, there's another way. I can't control it, Landon."
"I know... But if we don't do something, they're going to make it up to the last line of defense - the queen. For the sake of her, the knights, and my family, I beg you, Jaxyn..." Landon frowned. "Do it."
Jaxyn took a deep breath and nodded. "Okay... Watch my back while I do it?"
"Of course," Landon promised.
Jaxyn took a deep breath and closed his eyes, letting loose the destruction long awaiting being unleashed. He opened his eyes and unleashed his full power, destroying the hunters' weapons. He did his best to be precise to avoid casualties among the knights.
"Jaxyn, look out!" Landon said, blocking a hit.
Jaxyn lost his focus and accidently used destruction on some of the hunters. His eyes widened, and he snapped out of his empowered state.
"I...I didn't..." Jaxyn said shakily, falling to his knees.
Landon frowned, putting a hand on his shoulder. "Jaxyn... They would've destroyed you too if they had the chance. This is war. You did what you had to."
Jaxyn took a sharp breath, tears running down his face. "I...I suppose..."
"Missed me," the hunter leader said, starting to stab Jaxyn with a hunter spear.
"No!" Landon said, quickly moving and taking the hit.
Landon immediately collapsed.
"Landon!" Jaxyn yelled, slamming the leader far back. He scrambled over, kneeling beside him. "Landon, stay with me. I'll get you a doctor, and-"
"Jaxyn, we both know there's no coming back from this..." Landon said, smiling slightly. "Just...look after my boy for me. Make sure he turns out alright without me... And please don't feel bad. Faced with the same situation, I would take the hit again for you, your majesty... I told you before... I... I serve you..."
He winced.
"Landon..." Jaxyn frowned. "I... I promise. I'll make sure Jacob has a good life. I'll tell him about our stories when he gets older too..."
Landon smiled. "Thanks...Jaxyn..."
He slowly closed his eyes.
"Landon..." Jaxyn said softly, frowning.
He wiped away his tears and narrowed his eyes at the hunter forces. He continued fighting from the wall, providing support for the knights. He wouldn't let Landon die for nothing. He had to win... For Landon, for Coral, and for his young children.

Jaxyn slowly walked over after the battle. "Hey Jake..."
"Hi Jaxyn!" young Jacob greeted happily. "Where's daddy?"
Jaxyn froze, frowning. "Jacob... He, uh...he didn't make it back from the battle..."
"Back soon?" Jacob asked.
Jaxyn frowned and kneeled down to his level. "Jacob... Your dad died to a hunter. He would come back if he could, but he's gone."
Jacob was silent, processing, then he began to cry. Jaxyn frowned and pulled him into a tight hug as the young boy cried himself out. He ended up crying himself to sleep. Jaxyn carried him to Landon's room and set him down in bed.
He walked over to a knight. "You're the new captain. That boy is to be raised as a knight. Treat him well, or there will be consequences."
The new captain straightened up and nodded. "Y-yes, your majesty. Of course."
Jaxyn nodded then walked out. He walked to a room away from everyone and plopped on the couch. He cried, grieving his friend and hating that Jacob was left behind. He stayed for a while. Something in him broke that day...
