209. New Prologue (1)

The first time Dowook bought Jam Music's stock was when he invested in Hyesung Entertainment.  As the album market shrank and the music market emerged, investors who saw the potential of the market initially invested considerable money in music distributors.

Among the music distributors that sprung up at the time, the only ones that survived were 'Pineapple Music', 'BN Music', and 'Jam Music', which are now called the top three music distributors.

However, Jam Music's music market share was quite low at around 10 percent.  Comparing the fact that the shares of Pineapple Music and BN Music were 56% and 26%, respectively, he could feel that they were definitely low.  Even the industry leader, Pineapple Music, and BN Music, which is supported by music broadcaster TBN, are gradually losing ground.

When the sound source was released, the same was released, but if the distributor was Pineapple, it was exposed a lot on that site and showed strength in the charts.  In that case, it was advantageous for producers to distribute music through Pineapple Music, which had the highest market share.

Because of this connection, Pineapple Music continued to grow and Jam Music continued to lag behind.  However, since Wook said he was investing in Jam Music, the consultant introduced by his father had no choice but to express deep concern.  In fact, even after Dowook bought stock, the stock price of Jam Music continued to decline.  However, Dowook bought more shares whenever Jam Music's stock price fell.  As a result, Do-wook's stock of jam music has become enormous.

Of course, there was not much monetary value per se.  If Do-wook had invested elsewhere, he could have made more money.

'However, what Dowook wanted to achieve was not financial gain.  What he wanted to gain from investing in Jam Music was 'a tool of defense as a producer'.

Just as album sales and broadcast rankings were measures of popularity in the previous era, as music charts began to replace them, the power of music distributors was enormous.

In order for music produced by producers to reach consumers, a distributor was absolutely necessary.  Because of this structure, distributors that have grown in size have gradually passed the burden on producers and consumers and increased their profits.

In this way, distribution commissions reached half of total revenue, and even if consumers purchased music at high prices, the actual revenue returned to producers was not much.  Criticism continued to sit still and gain too much, but it was difficult to change the already established structure.

'As Pineapple Music is acquired by a famous conglomerate and forms a market close to monopoly, the tyranny intensifies...  …  …  …  ..

Do-wook was clearly aware of this future.  And now it was right after Pineapple Music was acquired by a famous conglomerate.  It is for this reason that Pineapple Music is moving to raise fees all at once.  It was also Pineapple Music that proposed collusion to BN Music and Jam Music through behind-the-scenes work.

Do-wook's preparation was a countermeasure against this.  Dowook was now a producer who produces music, not just an agency employee.  And the consumers were fans who listened to Do-wook's music.

'In the past nobody could stop the tyranny because pineapple music got so big...  …  …  …  …  .'

However, Jam Music, he was going to prevent the fee increase.
