JACK

The self detonating bombs exploded one by one when Roni flickered the metal rings. I was about to run off but the three pulled me and even though I was struggling, they held me tightly, completely stopping me from making a run.

"No. Veronica!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. "Let me go. I have to save her." I tried to wiggle out of their grip but to no avail.

"Can't you see? Those are sulfur nitrate. You made it yourself! Don't be so reckless." Prim muttered behind me.

"You'll die if you get close!" Art said, a matter of fact. I shook my head as tears rolled down my face.

"I don't care. I have to see her. Veronica!" I screamed again but the whole smoke envelope, I can't see clearly.

"Jack." Prim whispered behind me. I looked up to them, to my friends and saw their tearstained faces.

"Let me go. I have to save her!" I muttered. Art continued crying and it's irritating, it's as if they're thinking that Roni is dead. But she isn't! I know she's not yet dead.

I was about to run off again, no matter how much they strongly disagreed when another explosion erupted, making the ground shake once more. The bridge in front of us swayed as the woods started falling off.

The fog that the sulfur nitrate resulted in completely dissolved and the view on the other side can be clearly seen within our own eyes.

The three let go of me as I stood up, waiting for something to happen. The others stood beside me, watching the bridge as a loud howl echoed on the mountains.

"It's coming from below." Prim whispered after she gasped.

We then slowly walked towards the cliff, to see what's happening below but before we could even approach the edge, a strong wind blew and Luna jumped from below to where we were standing.

She's panting while her transformation is about to come off and become a human once more. Blood came gushing from her limbs but it doesn't seem like it fazed her at all.

Luna's human face resurfaced as she turned towards us. Prim immediately hid behind Matt as Art readied himself for a possible attack. But before she could even take another step, another force erupted from below and in a blink of an eye, Roni was standing in front of me with arms stretched, shielding us from Luna. The latter smirked at the sight of Veronica.

"I knew that wasn't nearly enough to kill you." Roni muttered, breathless.

"I knew as well it won't work on a hybrid like you." Luna mirrored.

I stare at Roni's entire body, checking every wound she got. But to my surprise, there's none. Except that her hair is still red, nothing has changed. I breathed a sigh of relief. Thank God!

"Are you hurt?" Art asked. Roni shook her head immediately without averting her gaze from Luna.

"I'm afraid you all have to go first towards the shore. I'll meet you guys later once I'm done with her." She muttered.

"No. We'll go together." I instantly retorted.

"Jack." Roni's voice shattered, as if she's trying so hard to sound brave and strong. "Don't make this harder for me than it already is. Just go, please."

This time, she looked over her shoulder. She smiled a bit before she gave us that reassuring look and no matter how stubborn I am, the three agreed with her that they immediately pulled me away.

"I love you." I mouthed at her before she disappeared from my point of view. I silently prayed that she'll return safely.

I followed my friends and sprinted towards the direction of the ocean. The crashing waves and the salty air enlightened me, making me run faster.
