Amanda's POV

The whole Slytherin table burst into applause as they heard the sorting hat's decision. I was in Slytherin!

Happily I walked back to the table and sat down where I had been sitting before. Scorpius and Dolan both gave me huge grins and I also got greetings from other students. A few of them were in my age. One of them was named Christina and she was very friendly with me.

"I see you've met my brother. Just tell me if he's annoying you, I swear I'll get him to back of", she said as Dolan groaned. It then hit me that they were siblings. A few of their features were the same, but they were also different in many ways. Christina had higher cheekbones and her lips were a bit bigger. They had the same nose though, and also the same deep green eyes that shined on their faces.

"Oh, no worries. He's only been nice, I promise", I told the nice girl and then the two of us got into a deep conversation about our pasts. She told me about her previous years at Hogwarts, while I told her half-truths about my earlier years. She seemed really nice, and she was very easy to talk to.

"Amanda, could I talk to you for a minute?", the voice came from behind me and as I turned around I saw James standing there. I could see that he was a little uncomfortable where he stood. His pleading face was the only thing that made me get out of my seat and follow him to the outside of the Great Hall.

"I'm sorry for acting like a complete ass", he said as soon as we were alone. His apology came as a little surprise. I couldn't help but wonder where it came from though. He had seemed quite sure of his thing earlier.

"Why?", I voiced my wonders. James looked like he understood where my doubts came from.

"My words where a bit mean and also kind of xenophobic. I don't want to be anyone that you hate. If I can become a better person, then I will try to become that person." His words didn't seem honest. They sounded rehearsed, as if he had thought about what to say before he came up to me.

I frowned up at him and took a step back.

"Tell me what you honestly think. I don't want a movie speech, I want to hear your honest thoughts", I told him and saw how he swallowed nervously. He put his hands in his pockets and coughed silently.

"I just... I really don't want you to be mad at me. You're special, and I had really hoped that we could be... at least friends. If an apology is what you want, then I'll happily give it to you", he told me and sounded completely honest. I smiled sadly at him and stepped a bit closer. I put my hand on his arm.

"An apology isn't what I want. I just don't want people to be that judgmental. The apology doesn't mean anything if mean anything with it." With those words I left James standing in the corridor.

James' POV

She had a point. I knew that she did. I didn't have to say the words, I had to stop acting the way I did. It was easier said than done though.

"Hey James!", yelled my dear cousin Roxy. She was running towards me with Molly and Louis behind her. She was looking stressed out about something.

"What's up?", I asked as the trio came up to me. Molly looked annoyed about something. It wasn't often she was annoyed with Louis, Roxy or I. The three of us were actually some of the few she accepted.

"I have to apologize to Amanda. It was pretty rude of us to say those things, wasn't it?" I nodded in agreement and heard Molly sigh beside Louis, who looked incredibly bored with our dilemma.

"Why is it that the two of you never learn? You're always saying stupid things and then you have to apologize! Why do you never thick through your words?", asked Molly aggravated. I looked down at the floor and cleared my throat. She was right, I knew that. Roxy knew that too. We got into a lot of trouble while Molly and Louis were the ones trying to get us out of trouble.

"I know, I know! Let's just try and be better this year, alright?", I spoke which earned me an eye roll from Molly. Then she smiled while shaking her head.

"You idiot", she only muttered before her anger vanished completely.

"Louis!", Roxy yelled while snapping her fingers infront of her cousins face. He quickly turned her way and I turned to see what he had been looking at. There stood Meredith Creevey and Anna Longbottom. I wondered where the other two of their group was. Usually, people would see Peter Finnigan and Anastasia Jordan with the other two girls.

Louis' eyes were fixed on Meredith. She was smiling with her friend as they discussed something. My eyes widened as I realized why Louis was watching her.

"Well, well, well! Isn't it our little Louis watching a girl! Has he maybe got a crush", I joked with a big smirk on my lips. Immediately his cheeks reddened. It made my smirk widen.

"Oh, shut up!", Louis sighed and stalked away from us. Roxy and Molly were both laughing while I was grinning at Louis' retreating figure.

"Come on! Let's head back to our dorms", I said then and we all walked our own ways towards our houses.

Amanda's POV

I had trouble sleeping that night. It had nothing to do with my house. The problem was that I was nervous about the next day. I couldn't use magic. What would I do if I had to in some class? Did the teachers know that I wasn't a witch? I really hoped that they did.

Christina and the other girls in the dorm where sleeping. The room was dark. With all of my worries I couldn't lay in the silent room. It made me completely crazy. Therefor I silently snuck out of the dorm and down to the common room. It was empty when I got there, thankfully.

The first thing I did was sit down infront of the fire. The low light was just enough for me to see the pen and paper in my hands. Then I started writing.

Dear Rose,

I can't believe that I'm actually at this crazy school. The hardest part is being here without you. I hate that I'm in this alone. I mean, I had James but I'm not really sure if he's as nice as I thought he was. I've heard him make pretty nasty comments that are stereotypical, and you know how I feel about that. He said sorry, but I don't know if I'm okay with what he said. After what happened in eight grade I'm so sensitive about all of that.

I need you, a lot. Please write back to me and tell me about your normal life. I'm craving some of that normal, and it's only been a day! Gosh, I might die by the end of the year!

Jokes aside, though. I can't wait to see you at christmas. I promise you that I will bring you the best presents!

Love Amanda xxx
