⚠️TW: mention of blood and baby loss
(Don't worry, not Mia's!!!!!!!)⚠️

*Mia pov*

Halloween is rolling around and Chris and I are trying to find the perfect family costumes, but today he'll do it alone since I'm on shift.
"Morning!" I chirp at my colleagues in the locker room
"Hi Mia!" Mandy says "how are you?"
"Good, how 'bout you, your weekend was fine?"
"Oh yeah! Steven and I went to visit my sister and her newborn daughter"
"Oh how exciting! How are they?"
"They're both doing very well thanks for asking!"
"Sure"
"Hey girls you are both needed" we hear Brian talk from outside
"Coming!"
We kind of rush outside and they tell us there's been an accident of some sort involving a truck driver and another driver in a car with his wife.
Walking in the ER there's some caos, people running around, some blood covering the floor and a few screams of pain.
We reach the doctors waiting for orders
"Please sedate him!" Dr. Marcus says and soon Brian is on it.
"Mia would you mind give me a hand here?"
The other doctor says and I soon walk to him to help him out.
Layed on the gurney there's a pregnant lady, must be the car drivers wife, her eyes are closed, she's in and out of consciousness and blood is covering her form the waist down. Her sweater has been cut open to allow us to do our job, there's a quite large hematoma appearing on her stomach which means there's likely and internal bleeding, and after doing a quick ultrasound it's confirmed.
"Prep and OR!" Dr. Gluck says "we gotta operate now, she'll most likely loose the baby" he says as I'm right next to him while they get ready to move her.
Once I hear those words I stop dead on my tracks, not that I didn't know that was going to happen but hearing him say it make it all too real.
I faintly hear someone calling my name and realize it's Brian only when he walks in front of me
"Hey, you good?" He asks gently grasping my arm
"Sorry..." I mumble before walking to the nearest bin and empty my stomachs contents in it.
"Grab me a chair and some water!" Brian says to another nurse who was right there
Once I'm down he gently sits me on a chair and after pushing my hair out of my face he brings the water bottle near my mouth, letting me sip on it for a few seconds
"Ehy..."
"I'm so sorry"
"Girl it's ok, you're fine?"
"I don't know" I say closing my eyes
"I'll call Chris for you ok?"
"No don't it's ok"
"Don't wanna hear it Mia, you got so pale" Dr. Gluck tells me, he must have seen my reaction and came to me as soon as the patient was situated in the OR, he's not the one operating.
"I'm sorry I froze"
"It's ok, I get it, it's not easy for us let alone you!" He tells me "Brian is right, let him call Chris, he was bound to come down here for your ultrasound anyways right?"
"Yeah" I say glancing at the clock on the wall signaling 10.15, our appointment being at 10.45.
I listen to Brian and Chris's conversation on my phone and Chris told Brian he'll be here in a minute.

Indeed Chris arrived after 7 minutes and he gave me a long and warm hug, whispering sweet nothings in my ear, already knowing what happened
"I'm sorry sweetheart" he says one last time kissing my temple and whipping away a stray tear.
"Take deep breaths for me love" and I do, trying to follow his breathing and calming down.
We just sat there, actually Chris was on a chair and I was on his legs while closing my eyes and focusing on something else and relax a bit, until Brian came to call us saying that Dr. Suzan was waiting for us.
Today we had an ultrasound and we were gonna find out the baby's gender.
"It feels wrong to do this now" I whisper sitting on the bed
"We can do it another time..." Chris suggests
"No, we already pushed once cause I had the flu, there are no other spaces left soon"
He stays silent but gives my lips a gentle kiss before the doctor comes in
"Hey guys"
"Hi Melody" I say
"Hope your feeling a bit better"
"Eh..."
"Let's take a look shall we?"
"I'm so excited" Chris says grasping my hand and kissing it
"Me too"
We let Melody do her job, meticulously measuring the baby and looking for its heart beat and once she founds it she let us hear it a bit longer than usual.
"Do you want to know the gender?"
"Please" bit Chris and I say
She looks at us smiling and then back at the little screen
"Looks like you guys are having a boy, congratulations!"
"A little dude?" Chris says
"A mini you!" I tell him looking up smiling at him as he does the same to me.
"You are all set, I'll go print these out for you" Dr. Suzan says snapping the two of us out of our moment
"Thank you"
As soon as she walks out Chris gives me a long sweet kiss on my lips smiling while doing so
"I love you"
"I love you too" I reply breathless
We get out and she hands us our pictures, of of them has a little 'boy' writing in blue on it just near our baby, we bid goodbye and Chris walks me back to my department.

"How do you feel?" Brian ask as soon as we walk in
"Better thank you"
"Everything good with baby Evans?"
"Yes!" Chris tells him "we know the gender"
"You do?"
"Uhuh"
"Ugh I can't wait to know it!"
"We'll tell our families first and then we'll tell all our friends"
"Of course" Brian says giving the both of us a little hug saying how happy he is for us
"I'll see you later" I tell Chris turning to him
"Ok, but if anything happens and you don't feel good again promise you'll call me"
"Yes"
"Please Brian..." Chris tells him
"I promise Chris don't worry, ill drive her home once the shift ends, I know you're pretty busy finding the coolest Halloween costumes"
"I am...thanks man!"
"No worries"
"I'll see you back home beautiful!" He says to me kissing me lightly on the lips and then peppering a few kisses on my slightly swollen belly, making me smile like crazy
"Bye!" I say ruffling his hair some
I watch him as he walks out of the ER and smile at how sweet of a man I managed to get.
