Later that day, Thor and Diana were summoned to Odin's study. Thor wasn't sure what the Allfather wanted to talk about, but Diana had a clue; it had something to do with Astrid's relationship with Emmett. When they entered Odin's study, they found Frigga and Loki there as well.
“Father, you wanted to see us?” Thor asked.
Odin motioned for the couple to sit. He templed his fingers and leaned forward, “I have decided my granddaughter's relationship with the vampire. It is unacceptable.”
Thor and Diana were going to protest, but Odin held up his hand, “I have decided to offer the Cullen boy the Golden Apple. I will make him a minor God under Baldur. He is cheerful and carefree; I will make him the god of Joy if the boy accepts. Thor, I want you and Loki to train him to fight, Thor.”
Thor and Loki nodded; Diana was ecstatic; eating the Apple would cure Emmett of his vampirism and make him flesh and blood again. She knew it would make Astrid very happy, “When would you like to inform them, Father?” Diana asked.
“As soon as Astrid has rested. I must inform Baldur as well.
The couple nodded; at that moment, there was a knock at the door, and Baldur entered. He had heard about the return of the lost princess and her companion, so he had an idea of what the Allfather wanted to talk to him about; sure enough, Baldur was correct and happily agreed to the arrangement. Baldur liked the idea of having a minor God with him. He would also help in Emmett's training.
Now that everyone agreed, Odin sent for the young couple. When Emmett received the summons, he was a little nervous. Emmett feared that The Allfather would find him unworthy of his granddaughter. There was a knock on his door, and Astrid asked, “Did you get a summons to see my grandfather?” Astrid inquired.
Emmett nodded, “What do you think it's about?” Emmett questioned.
“I don't know, but my mother is waiting outside to escort us to my Grandfather. She doesn't seem worried; she looks excited.”
Emmett calmed down, and Astrid offered her hand; Emmett took it, and they left his bedroom. Diana smiled at the young couple and informed them that nothing wrong would happen, only that Odin wanted to talk to Emmett.
They walked in silence until they reached Odin's study. When Astrid and Emmett entered, they were surprised to see so many people waiting for them. Odin motioned for the couple to sit. Astrid and Emmett sat on the sofa. Odin stood and walked around his desk and peered into Emmett's golden eyes.
“I have thought long and hard about your relationship with Astrid, and I cannot allow a vampire to be with a goddess.”
Astrid shot to her feet, but Odin held his hand, “I know my granddaughter loves you very much, and I cannot take away her happiness. So, if you accept, I will make you a minor god under Baldur. You will become the god of joy
is.”
Emmett stared at Odin with his mouth hanging open, “How will you do that? I'm dead.”
“That is easily fixed,” Odin grabbed the Golden Apple off his desk, “This is the Golden Apple of Idun; it will give you a long life and release you from your vampire curse. Do you accept?”
Emmett didn't hesitate to accept the apple; he ate the entire apple and waited for the effect. When nothing happened, he and Astrid looked at each other, disappointed. Thor put his hand on Emmett's shoulder, “Do not despair, the Apple will change you, but it will take some time. I suggest you go back to your bedchamber and try to sleep.”
“Vampires can't sleep,” Emmett informed them.
Frigga smiled, “I shall help you with that. You must rest for Apple to do its job.”
Emmett nodded, and Frigga cast a spell to help Emmett sleep. When the magic washed over Emmett, he yawned. Frigga smiled and took Emmett's arm, and led him back to his bed chamber. Emmett thanked Frigga, then crawled into bed and fell asleep.
Meanwhile, back in Odin's study, Astrid hugged her grandfather tightly, “Thank you, Grandfather; this means the world to me.”
Odin smiled and hugged her, “Anything to make you happy, Granddaughter.”
“How long will it take for Apple to work on Emmett?”
“By the time he awakens, he will be one of us,” Loki explained.
“And tonight, we will celebrate your return and a new god,” Thor told his daughter.
Astrid smiled at her father, then hugged him and Diana, “Thank you both for this.”
“You are welcome, little one. While we wait, would you like a tour of the palace?”
Astrid agreed, and she and her parents left to explore the grounds.
