POV Penelope

Dammit, why doesn't it work?

I've been trying to conjure a specific little bag made of cotton with the constellation I saw at Astronomy class the other day, but each time a bag appears something is wrong with it. I want to create a perfect one, I have a clear image of it in my head, I do everything the same as before, why won't it work?

"Maybe you should focus on something else. You've been sitting like that for two hours; I would've gone mad by now." Imelda sits on her bed, reading some book about Quidditch.

"I don't know." I sit back and look at the cellar, "Maybe my mind is somewhere else."

"You are way too focused on the goal. I understand you want to help Anne, but have you thought about it thoroughly? Might be a great time for it."

"What do you mean?"

Imelda closes the book and sits at the edge of my bed.

"That is a pain extraction spell that is your goal, right? You want to master easier spells to move on to more complicated ones, but are you sure that it is what you want?"

"I still don't understand what you are talking about."

"Imagine, you remove the pain, Anne is happy, Sebastian is happy, but you know what else is happy? The cause of the pain. Removing the effects of the curse won't remove the curse itself and if you want to cure Anne, you need to find a way to remove the curse."

Of course.

The pain extraction spell won't work.

I've been so blind all this time.

"I feel so stupid." I slap myself with both my arms, stretching my cheeks, "Merlin, what should I do?"

"Well, I must remind you that curing Anne is Sebastian's wish, not yours..."

"Cloning! I must learn to clone!"

Imelda raises her eyebrow.

"Now I'm the one who doesn't follow."

"You see, Victor Rookwood cursed Anne, meaning that something he did does already exist, its origins are not from ancient magic, he doesn't wield it!" I jump up on my bed and start walking circles, "So it was just a regular curse and there must be a reverse curse."

"And how exactly do you plan on learning it? You are forbidden from leaving the ground. Besides, I think Sebastian said that he had already tried looking for a rev..."

"I won't need to leave, I'll just go to the library!"

"Oh yes, the Hogwarts library. A library where books on dark magic stand right beside tales for children. Are you out on your mind? Sebastian has already told you that he's read all the books."

I smile mischievously, feeling my eyes light up.

"Not all books in the Restricted Section! I'll just sneak in, find the right one, clone it and then study it!"

Imelda sighs. She gets up, comes to me and puts her hand on my shoulder.

"Listen, I understand that you are obsessed with this idea, but you already do detentions at Sharp's class, you don't need another one. Why don't you just let it go for a while? Just for this evening."

"Fine, bore."

"What? Who did you just call a bore?" Imelda runs to her bed and grabs one of the pillows, "I will show you bore!"

She attacks me rapidly, leaving no room for mercy. The only thing I'm left to do is strike back.

My pillow lands right on her face, leaving her angry and eager for more. I feel her weapon hit me on my forehead, leaving me with ringing in ears. As I try to revenge, she throws a crushing blow, knocks me down on the bed, and then falls over. We laugh, still trying to poke each other with fingers.
