Chapter 9

Avian Burn's POV

"That was exhausting!" I heard Kagan say as I caught my breath from running. Contrary to what he said, he was smiling and didn't even look tired, as if he enjoyed what had happened. We ran outside of the party to avoid further confrontation. I don't even want to think about it. Those guys look scary. They can hurt me or us at any moment.

I even left Nadia at the party, even though she was expecting me to stay where she left me. I had no choice but to leave or else, I might get beaten up alongside Kagan. She didn't seem to mind being with Dan all night long. Is it possible to love two people? I don't know.

"So it was you," I trailed off as I caressed my knees to numb the pain I got earlier from falling hard on the floor. I wonder if they are close enough to tell each other what happens when people confuse them. They are the only twins I know that don't usually communicate. Aren't twins supposedly inseparable? It's different in their case.

"Huh? What are you talking about?" He asked me, leaning forward as he tried to look directly at my eyes.

Kagan quickly held my wrists to prevent myself from falling. I felt his fingers brushing my skin. It felt gentle and strong at the same time, but not enough to hurt me.

"Are you okay? Masakit ba masyado pagkakadapa mo?" He continually asked, looking concerned about me.

"I'm fine." I cleared my throat before looking back at him, only to find him staring hard. What? What is his problem? I bravely stared back at him, and fortunately, he averted his gaze first as he looked at my knees again.

"You know what? We should look for a convenience store." Kagan looked around, still holding my wrists. We walked aimlessly with no plans in mind.

"Ah! There." He pointed towards a well-lit convenience store, no one is inside except the cashier that is busy playing games on his phone.

There are no cars passing by as it is already midnight. I breathed the cold air and looked ahead of me as I heard the familiar jingle of bells when Kagan opened the door of the store.

"I'm hungry. I didn't get to eat anything at the party because of that guy. For sure, the ice cream is already melting." Kagan grumbled, and I silently agreed. I only get to eat two canapés from the party. I did not expect that there would be a little commotion because of Kagan. I can feel my stomach suddenly grumbling at the thought of food.

"But before that, we need to treat you first," He turned to me, smiling again as he tried to take a step towards another aisle to get some patches for body pain.

"I think this brand works better." He continued, but I clung to the hem of his shirt. Kagan stopped walking and turned to look at me, his brows arching a little as if he was asking what I needed.
