"What?"

She whispered, her voice trembling. My anger surged with each passing second. I struggled to rein it in, but her presence alone was a source of profound frustration. I wanted to trust her, to believe in her innocence, but doubt gnawed at my resolve. I wanted her. I loved her.

But I couldn't afford to act on that love. First, I had to be certain she wasn't complicit in this treachery. My family's safety came first. My people's safety came first. My duties were paramount, and only then could my love for her follow.

I had loved her since childhood. I still did. But the cruel reality was that I had to prioritize my responsibilities over her.

"What are you saying, Yuvraj? How can you blame my father? How is he involved in all this? Tell me, Yuvraj?"

Her words cut through my thoughts. I didn't know what overcame me, but I suddenly shouted with all my might.

"आपके बाबा ने हमारे बाबा की हत्या की है!!!"

(YOUR FATHER IS THE ONE WHO KILLED MY FATHER!!!)

I shouted as loudly as I could, hoping to pierce the veil of disbelief that shrouded her understanding.

She stared at me in shock. An uncomfortable silence settled over the chamber. Her eyes widened, lips parted, hands trembling, and her entire body shivered.

I watched her intently. Suddenly, she began shaking her head in denial. Recognizing the signs of an impending panic attack, I swiftly grabbed her shoulders, guiding her to a chair and offering her a glass of water. I knelt before her, our eyes locking.

"No... no... It... it's not... not true. Yo... you... are... are lying."

Her voice cracked between sobs. I held her hands, rubbing my thumbs gently over her knuckles.

"Look, Nandani, I know it's difficult to understand, but it's the truth..."

I tried to explain, but she grew increasingly agitated. In one swift motion, I lifted her onto my lap, changing our position so I was seated on the chair with her cradled in my arms.
