I was prepared to leave for Shamsher Garh, yet I faced the daunting challenge of slipping away unnoticed. My brothers, Abhi and Vansh, shadowed me like persistent shadows, their watchful eyes never straying from my side. My father had instructed them to do so, fearing I might lock myself away in that infernal chamber again-his words, not mine.
Despite my best efforts to escape their vigilance, they seemed determined to accompany me everywhere, even into the washroom.
"Abhi, Vansh, at least grant me the luxury of bathing in peace! I swear I won't lock myself in again. You know I can't remain in the bathroom forever. Sooner or later, I have to emerge. Please, just let me bathe!"
They exchanged incredulous glances, engaging in a silent dialogue that was nothing short of comedic, their eyebrows dancing in exaggerated fashion.
I couldn't help but smile as they finally sighed in unison, relenting slightly.
"Fine! But if you're not out in a maximum of twenty minutes, we're breaking down the door. Deal?"
I couldn't resist a cheeky grin as I replied,
"Yes! That sounds perfectly agreeable. I promise to reappear in precisely twenty minutes. Now, if you'll excuse me-goodbye!"
With that, I retreated into the sanctuary of the bathroom, enveloped by the soothing scents of lemongrass and roses. A grand staircase, probably thirty or thirty-five steps, loomed before me as I ascended, heading towards a wooden screen set aside for changing.
Shedding my garments, I remained clad only in a loincloth and stepped into the expansive pool. It was a unique setup with a table positioned in the middle, and I settled into one corner where various pastes awaited. I selected the turmeric powder paste infused with lemongrass and roses, complemented by milk and honey-a concoction renowned for its skin-brightening properties. I relished the ritual of applying it myself, preferring it to any assistance.
As I indulged in my pampering, thoughts drifted to how I might persuade Nandani to forgive me. My departure for Shamsher Garh was imminent, and I had devised a plan that required secrecy. I couldn't let anyone know I was headed to Nandani.
Just then, a loud knock reverberated through the empty bathroom, snapping me from my reverie. I quickly wrapped a dry black loincloth around my waist, threw on a black kurta, and stepped outside, towel-drying my hair.
