They fight against these robotic twins that Robotnik made before his death (Because HE'S OLDDD)
Their names are Bliss (female-coded) and Brutus (male-coded)
Eggman was finally locked in prison. Years later, when everyone was adults, he sensed the end was near, and he managed to spring a final attack he'd planned for years. He went back to his lair, and started the activation for his two newest robots.
He then promptly died.
Bliss and Brutus were activated, immediately traumatized (bc, y'know, body-), and watched a video on why they should hate Sonic, his friends, and all their kids.
The twins didn't really understand what was going on, so they were just like "oh, okay then, guess we're doing this now-"
