YG Entertainmente Confirms BLACKPINK's Julie Continues On Hiatus

June 26, 2020

Today, on June 26, BLACKPINK released the M/V for "How You Like That", their first comeback since "Kill This Love", being the first of the three titles songs for their upcoming full album.

A few hours after the music video came out, the girls were already promoting the new song at Inkigayo. However, netizens quickly pointed out that, even though Julie participated in the M/V and perfectly sang her lines, she wasn't present onstage and BLACKPINK performed as only four.

As many know, Zhang suffered a knee injury during the group's last shows in Japan and needed immediate surgery, and BLINKs (BLACKPINK's fandom) assumed it was probably the reason.

Later, confirming their thoughts, YG Entertainment posted a note remembering fans that, as they explained previously, the singer's hiatus from her normal idol activities would last between six and nine months, with the accident having happened in January of this year.

The company also certified that Julie won't be joining BLACKPINK in the promotions for "How You Like That", and, during this time, she is taking care of her mental and physical health, and going through intense physiotherapy to be back to her job as soon as possible.

she's been through a lot during this tour, she totally deserves this time off

user2
the fact that this all could've been avoided if yge had explained her situation earlier :(

i don't want to defend the company or anything, but julie herself said she didn't tell anyone about her pain because she didn't want to bother
user4
exactly because of that. blackpink's been receiving attacks since their debut, julie's case being even worse and YG didn't move a muscle to defend their artist. all of them were super focused on the tour and the hate she was getting was ridiculously strong (especially coming from armys bc of that thing she supposedly hates a boy from bts or whatever), so yes, it is the company's fault for not fucking taking care of them.

i'm happy she's finally taking care of her health in general. as a fan, it was heartbreaking seeing her struggle to finish a choreography she used to nail back then without passing out :/
