Coming home (book 2)

Chapter 26

Recap: you just reached the compound where the rest of the missing team could be at. You are all hiding behind a wall to avoid being seen.

Barnes peaks out with his night vision binoculars.

"Looks like they have two on each tower and 2-3 on the fence. Our best bet would be to scout out the other sides of the compound, to see what we're up against since we can't see who's inside. He says while he looks at the map.

Everyone splits up and checks the other sides and it's the exact same. They regroup and watch for a while. Every hour the shifts change. First the people on the wall go and then the people in the tower go.

"The wall is unmanned for about 45 seconds. We would need to be fast and quiet." You say

"It would take to much time to get over the walls. You could get up there and immediately get shot" Says Barnes

"Y/n and I are small, we could probably get over the gate and hide somewhere." Says Kara

"No it's to dangerous. We don't even have a layout of the compound." He says

"What if we shoot their lights out. Then they can't see us coming." Asks one of the guys

"They might not be able to see us but they will know we're here if we do that. Everyone will be on guard and we will probably be picked off one by one." Says Kara

"Danvers is right and we would be outmanned and outgunned." Says Barnes.

"What if two of us draw them out, they would focus everyone on that side. That would allow you guys to get in and out. Says one of the guys.

"I'm not putting anyone in anymore danger then they already are." Says Barnes

"We have to do something. We're running out of time and we will be sitting ducks when the sun comes out." Says Kara

"What did you have in mind?" Barnes asks one of the guys.

"We all have grenades. Two of us head into tree line, we space out and throw them as far away as we can from where we are so they target the area." Says the guy

"You could still die, they will be sending all they have at you guys." Says Barnes

"Eric and I are fast. As soon as they go off we get out of there. It should give you guys enough time to get in. We can head to another area and do the same when you guys are ready to leave." Says Aaron

Barnes goes quiet, probably thinking everything through. Before he can say anything a truck comes in. Everyone stays hidden and they watch the truck.

"That's how we could get in! We take out the driver and someone stays in the car and is ready to be our getaway driver." You say

"Sounds a lot better then those two blowing themselves up. Let's move!" He says

While the truck is stopped everyone jumps in the back. Thankfully no one was in the back. Everyone stays down and the truck goes through the compound to where the other vehicles are.

You find a clip board and realize it's a map of the compound. You show It to Barnes and explain It to him. Adam and Barnes exit the truck to take a look around before they come back a few minutes later.

"Jackpot." Says Eric as Adam comes back with a bunch of  the enemy uniforms in his hands.

We all get dressed and head out of the truck. We split off into teams of four. Adam stays back at the van so it's ready to go once we all get back.

Eric, Barnes, kara and you head to the jail area. Hoping pierce and the others are there.  We walk past the guards  and Eric begins speaking to the guard, who actually give him the keys to the cells before leaving.

"What did you say to them?" Asks Barnes

"Told them we were there to relieve them. I'll watch the door. If you hear me whistle they are coming. " Says Eric

You, Barnes and kara begin checking the cells. Most were empty, you reach the end of the cells and see pierce leaned up against the wall. She didn't look very well.

"Sargent Pierce?" You whisper just loud enough for her to hear.

"Who are you? How do you know my name?" She asks

"I'm Y/n Press, I'm apart of a team that was sent to rescue you. We are wearing the suits to stay blended in but we need to move." You say as you unlock the cell.

You help her up and put her arm over your shoulder holding most of her weight.

"Are you able to walk?" You ask

"Yeah just give me a sec." She says

After a few minutes she's ready to walk. Barnes and kara are also helping two more soldiers. You get them back to the truck and help them in.

No one's pov

"Our covers been blown! There's a group coming." We gotta go now! Says Adam

"Avery is still in the cell, we can't leave them." Says Kara

You and Kara run back to the cells unlocking the cell to Avery. She was already standing and the trio heads back to the trucks. You help Avery in and someone else helps you in. You hold your hand out to Kara as bullets start flying towards the truck.

"Everyone down!" Yells Barnes

They manage to pull Kara in. And Adam takes off towards the gate. Everyone was doing their best to stay down to avoid the gunfire. Adam breaks the gate down and continues driving. He drives back to the cars and everyone gets out and starts getting in the trucks when more bullets come flying at us.

You watch as Kara goes down, you're able to pull her out of the gunfire and you frantically check for a wound. You rip her shirt open to see  the bullets lodged in her vest with no blood or anything.

"Thank god." you say

"Ow that hurt like a bitch." Says Kara taking a deep breath. You help her stand up.

"Press! Danvers! You good?" Asks Barnes

"Yeah!" You yell back.

They cover you and you get just enough time to get in the trucks. The trucks pull out and heads back to base. The sun was just beginning to rise.

Once you arrive you assist the injured  to the infirmary.  Kara goes and gets her ribs checked out. After that you all group up for a meeting.

"Great job today guys. We were able to rescue everyone we could.  I couldn't have asked for a better team. For those of you wanting to stay I can send you to another team for missions. If you would like to go home, come talk to me and I will get those arrangements together.  Eat some food and get some rest." He says

Everyone goes and eats before you head back to your bunk and fall asleep.
