Chapter Four

The next day she could barely concentrate on her normal school work, the ideas they held boring compared to what the night classes taught.

At meal times she stayed with Eve and her group of friends, still unsure where to sit.

‘Should we be sitting over there?’ Elle asked Eve, pointing to the night class students.

‘Hmm, most of them are full Hunters and have their groups. We’re still the rookies and would probably seem wannabe if we sat with them,’ Eve shrugged and continued eating. Elle recognized Cassidy up at the far end, sitting with a group of Hunters and chatting away happily. All of those Hunters seemed older and more in charge but Cassidy fit right in, looking way older then what she really was. Elle also noticed Patrick and Key who’d decided it was in their right to sit on the Hunter side. They sat by themselves, and when they tried to engage conversation with the others they were turned down rudely. Patrick also had a habit of glancing towards Cassidy before whispering to Key and laughing. At one point he caught Elle’s glance, to which she instinctively ducked and kicked herself later for doing something so stupid.

‘Have you seen the others from our night class,’ she asked Eve.

‘There,’ Eve pointed with her fork over to Oliver who was sitting by himself. Elle’s heart instantly felt sorry for him, but when she was about to go say hello someone else beat her to it.

Luca and Josh slid in beside Oliver, smiling and beginning a conversation. Elle fell back down into her seat, watching them out of the corner of her eye as they all began to laugh.

‘Did you see the blackboard yesterday that the Hunters had?’ Elle turned her attention away from the three.

‘Uhuh,’ Eve struggled to put butter on her roll.

‘Do you know what it was?’ Elle persisted.

‘Yeah,’ Eve successfully put butter on roll. ‘They were betting to see how long we would last.’

Eve had managed to find Elle on her way to night class and as soon as she landed next to her the girl rocketed off on how she felt like she was dressed as a hobo.

‘I asked Lisa if I thought my first outfit would be good for this class, it had a zebra dress with a pair of like 3 inch wedges. Now it was really comfy, which is what you need when training, right? But then Lisa said that we could be walking or running and so I was like well this dress isn’t very good for outside. So then we took about half an hour to find a new dress, and then some nice shoes that I could wear for like over an hour, so I ended up with this. It’s not very good but I think I can like hobble in it quickly, so it should be fine,’ Eve beamed in her outfit. Elle had just thrown on some runners, shorts and an old t-shirt, but next to Eve she did look like a hobo.

‘It’s fine,’ Elle muttered but knew Eve would be complaining about sore feet pretty soon.
