CHAPTER 10

I am walking on the aisle. I am wearing a very beautiful dress. There are lots of people in the church. On my left side are a bunch of people I work with in DEH, all looking sad. Judging from my dress and the church setting, I knew it is my wedding day. But why are all these people looking mournfully at me?

On the other side are all beautiful women. They all look disgusted at me. Some are even glaring at me, all hateful eyes directed at me. I don't understand what's going on. Then at the front of the aisle are our parents. They are smiling at me. Silang apat lang ata ang masaya sa lahat ng tao na nasa loob ng simbahan ng araw na yun.

Tumingin ako sa may altar. At nandun si Eniel. Nakasuot ng white suit. He looks so handsome. I can't fathom the emotions written on his lovely face. I know it isn't happiness that I'm seeing in those green eyes. They are a look of concern and even pity. Standing beside him are Jane and Lindsay and they too look sad.

When I finally reached him, he took my hand and gently kissed it. Then he lifted my veil and I could swear that I saw pain in his eyes. Hindi ko na nagugustuhan ang mga pangyayari sa kasalang ito.

Eniel smiled bitterly at me. Then he said something that almost made me faint.

"I'm sorry baby. I can't go through this wedding. I am just not in love with you and I can't be happy with you," then he walked away from me.

I was stunned by what he said. All I can do was stare at his back walking away from me. Walking out of the church and out of my life forever.

Bigla akong nagising at hindi ko namalayan na humihingal pala ako. Panaginip lang pala yun subalit parang totoo lahat. Namamanhid ang hita ko at dun ko lang napagtanto na nakadantay pa pala si Eniel sa 'kin. Ng humarap ako sa kanya ay tulog na tulog pa rin ito. Payapa at humihinga ng mabagal. Hinalikan ko ang mga labi nito at narinig ko na umungol si Eniel. Pagkatapos ay dumilat ito. Napakagandang berdeng mata ang sumalubong sa 'kin.

"Well notwithstanding your very heavy arms and legs, I could say that I had a good sleep," I smiled shyly at him. Secretly joyful that I was able to get away with lying to him.

"Me too. And to think I would be sleeping beside you for the rest of my life, I am in for a very exciting future with you."

"Alam mo parang binabangungot ka pa yata eh," sambit ko para maitago ang pamumula ng pisngi ko dahil sa sinabi niya.

"More like a dream come true rather than a nightmare. Come let's get up and see what's our breakfast," at tuluyan itong bumangon. Napatingin ako sa ibabang bahagi ng katawan nito.

"I'm sorry baby, morning wood," Then he walked very fast towards the bathroom. Napangisi na lang ako dahil sa inakto ng mapapangasawa ko. What happened to the very confident underwear model? Nang lumabas ito ay ako naman ang pumasok sa banyo. Pagkatapos kong magsipilyo at maghugas ng mukha ay lumabas na din ako.

We went down then had our breakfast. Pagkatapos ay nakapagdesisyon akong samahan si Eniel sa koprahan. Dinalaw nito ang mga tauhan nito. Halos malula ako sa atensiyong ibinigay sa 'kin ng mga tao dun. Sabik na sabik silang makilala ang babaeng papakasalan ng amo nila.

Nakita ko kung paano makitungo si Eniel sa mga tao nito. Napakabait nitong amo at magiliw na nakikipagkuwentohan sa mga ito. Kung titingnan ay hindi mo aakalaing isa itong napakayamang lalaki. At tama nga ang sinabi ni Edna, napakasimple ni Eniel.
