CHAPTER LVIII

8 February 1717

Nassau

Mother, father, my beloved brothers and sister, I hope you will forgive me for what I have done, for freeing those outlaws and running away with them. Perhaps you will never understand, perhaps you feel betrayed, perhaps you judge me, but it does not matter, it does not matter, because for the first time in my life I have understood who I am and how I want to live my days.

Don't worry about me. I am fine. You all know me well and trust my judgement; therefore, believe me when I say that I have met some friendly people.

I will not come to Charlestown, not yet, but I promise that I will see you again. I will visit you as soon as I can. I know it will not be easy for you to accept this decision of mine, and I am sorry I cannot write you a longer, more detailed letter; I do not have much time now. In any case, please know that I am happy and I hope that this knowledge is enough for you. Today is a beautiful day.

I love you.

Affectionately,

Eveline Adler
