What's going on guys it's Mario and Sonic gamer and today I'm going to be having a discussion that will likely fall into the unpopular category which is that I don't want Marvel and Star Wars to be in the Kingdom Hearts franchise. For those who've knew me for a long time you would know that Kingdom Hearts is one of my favorite video game franchises of all time up there in the top 10 alongside Mario, Sonic, Kirby, Mega Man, and more recently Honkai Impact 3rd it's such a great series sure the lore is a bit confusing but nonetheless I enjoyed all the action, the characters, the story, and the music. I love going on adventures with Sora and the gang traveling all across worlds and defeating the Heartless throughout the Disney worlds. Now with all that being said that despite being owned by Disney I don't want Marvel or Star Wars anywhere near Kingdom Hearts I know someone is going to bring up Big Hero 6 since that movie was based on actual characters from Marvel however I don't really count that since Disney mostly did their own thing with that so I'd say it's more Disney property than Marvel and it's also why it worries me that apparently Star Wars is basically teased as one the next worlds in Kingdom Hearts 4 and I have to say I hope it doesn't happen and for today's chapter I'm going to be explaining why I don't want Star Wars and Marvel in Kingdom Hearts so without further ado let's get started.
The first reason why I don't want Marvel and Star Wars in Kingdom Hearts is there overall themes of their respective stories. Through the events of the Kingdom Hearts series it's always a light vs darkness type of theme we have the main characters that represent the light and the enemies they face weather it's Heartless, Nobodies, Unversed or actual people it's always a major theme of the light representing happiness, joy, friendship, love, hope, and other positive emotions while darkening represents sadness, sorrow, despair, pain, loneliness, and many more negative emotions it's also has a theme about hearts in both literal and a metaphorical sense and it also has that anime vibe with the whole power of friendship or that my friends are my power in Sora but in Xehanort's case friends can also be proven to be a weakness but regardless on how you look at it Kingdom Hearts has always been about light overcoming darkness even if it is and endless war. The problem with Marvel is that in it's multitude of stories, reboots, and media is that it doesn't have that light vs darkness theme into and I know someone's probably going to type "You don't need a story to have light vs darkness for it to work." Except you do there's a reason why Disney and Final Fantasy characters and worlds are introduced because the always have their one light vs darkness theme to it and is about good overcoming evil prime examples of this are Quasimodo vs Frollo, Ariel and Erik vs Ursula, Beast vs Gaston, Mike and Sully vs Randy and Waternoose, Frozen's final battle, Big Hero 6 vs Yokai and my personal favorite Simba vs Scar and the same is said for Final Fantasy like Cloud vs Sephiroth there's a reason why many Disney worlds are featured is because in someway shape of form there's always a them of light vs darkness with light always prevailing over darkness most of the time. That's not the case if you read the Marvel comics or seen some movies you would know that there a dozens of occasions where the villain does end up prevailing over the good guys the prime example is Thanos beating the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy by wiping out half the universe with a snap. Based on this I think it's pretty clear that Marvel would likely ruin some of the lore that's established in Kingdom Hearts especially since it doesn't have the light vs darkness theme. Now going off that you're probably thinking "Well Star Wars has a light vs darkness theme to it like Kingdom Hearts." And I'd say you wouldn't be wrong Star Wars and Kingdom Hearts are very similar in a way both involve stories of a young boy Luke and Sora living a pretty chill life until a call to adventure comes after disaster strikes weather it'd be Luke losing hid aunt and uncle or Sora losing Destiny Islands and both weld iconic swords that they use to battle through darkness especially people controlling it weather it'd be the Sith Lord and the Galactic Empire or Nobodies and the Organization XIII they learn about the tragedies that happened with prequel heroes weather it'd be Padme dying, Anakin being manipulated to the dark side and Obi-Wan going into exile or Terra having his body stolen by Xehanort, Ventus falling into a deep sleep as his heart was in Sora's or Aqua falling into the Realm of Darkness where she spent the next decade fighting darkness enemies and wandering endlessly and finally they have to fight a powerful old man who despite his age is a terrifying threat in the forms of Palpatine and Xehanort and both just don't know when to die as they keep coming back to life all sounds good but my biggest issue with Star Wars being included is hoe the tackle the whole them of light vs darkness. Star Wars the darkness which in this case is the Dark Side of the Force is considered corruption and nothing but imbalance and needs to be eliminated whereas Kingdom Hearts the darkness is considered to be a counterpart of light and that one cannot exist without the other and is something that necessary. Going off of both themes it's clear that adding Star Wars in Kingdom Hearts would make things confusing because all Star Wars sees when looking at light vs darkness most of the time all they see is good and evil sure there are some character who were on the dark side but turned to light like Darth Vader for example but that's almost a rare case as most of the time it's purely just black and white whereas Kingdom Hearts sees light vs darkness as shades of grey we're all not good or evil just flawed people. Both Star Wars and Kingdom Hearts are not bad for handling light vs darkness differently but we shouldn't put both different opinions in one story because if any Star Wars character was in the possession of any other Kingdom Hearts character like let's say Obi-Wan as in Aqua's shoes and he's fighting Terra possessed by Xehanort, Obi-Wan would decide to kill Terra despite the latter being possessed. So yeah adding Marvel and Star Wars in KH wouldn't make any sense at all especially with the difference in themes also I do think that Marvel and Star Wars are just too big of IPs that can do well with Kingdom Hearts especially with the amount of content they are trying to pump out daily so it would be hard for Disney to find a chance to place them in the Kingdom Hearts universe.
