What's going on guys it's Mario and Sonic gamer and today we're going to be talking about Honkai Impact 3rd, Genshin Impact, and Honkai Star Rail. For those of you who aren't aware by now I'm remaking a chapter of why I think Honkai id better than Genshin and Star Rail which you can find in the table of context but this time I go into much more detail on why I think it's better but I split it into 3 parts, characters, story, and gameplay I've already covered the first 2 parts characters and story so for this one I'm saving the best for last by going for the most important part of all of gaming: The gameplay which is something that keeps all players engaged like the level design, music, mechanics and in the case of these having reruns to unlock new characters and skins. If you haven't checked out the last 2 parts make sure you do so by checking the table of context because for this 3 part chapter I'm going to be talking about how Honkai handles everything well gameplay wise and one last thing like with the last 2 parts this is all just purely my opinion and I like all 3 games equally but with that said without further ado let's get started.
A greatly balanced pace battle system
The first advantage that Honkai has over the other 2 games is that is that it has definitely well placed battle system which is to be expected in an action game. Honkai Impact 3rd's gameplay is a 3D action pack role playing game where you just simply do all kinds of things like shoot guns with Kiana, slash enemies with Mei, fire lasers with Bronya, and so much more but what makes the gameplay so good is that it's really balanced and well paced when I first played the game I was scared I wasn't going to like the gameplay style especially in chapter 1 where they eventually let you play Bronya but as the series goes on you slowly but surely start to enjoy the battles it's not too fast and it's not too slow either even though there were times where I felt like it was going so fast but nonetheless it still feels very rewarding and the animation looks incredible when you use super moves like whenever I'm entering a battle I'm immediately spamming as fast as possible because it actually feels great and it almost feels like you yourself are in the battle as well. This type of gameplay style is what also makes the bosses fun to play and it adds a lot of stacks to the battlefield and it's just so cool to see. Like after one hour of playing I'm already enjoying the battles. Going through the battles it makes me feel excited sure it may be fast at times but the damage you deal to enemies is always so rewarding. But what I described is the exact opposite with Genshin and Star Rail. For starters Genshin is an incredibly slow paced version of Honkai where the fights just completely drag on to the point where you pretty much accomplish almost nothing when I researched this and played it for myself I immediately started to want to avoid battles because it's just too slow and redundant you can only do meaningful damage to when you have a specific character with a specific element otherwise you will end up dying so yeah that's why I would want to avoid battles there at all costs. Star Rail is no better if anything it's worse, Star Rail's battle system is an RPG turn based system which means it's one of those games where if you hit an enemy or an enemy hits you, a battle begins sounds good on paper but this is where the issue lies there's no high stakes, the combat feels so incredibly slow you just hit the enemy and after one turn you stand there as the enemy hits you and rinse and repeat which gets really repetitive and like Genshin you can only do meaningful damage if the characters match the right element now I know someone's going to mention how you can actually fast forward the battle but even that is lame in a way because that does make the stakes any less lower on top of that you are letting the game play itself which honestly that's probably the laziest thing you can do especially when characters use ultimates at the time you don't want them two like what if I want to save that for the end when the enemy is almost down? At least Genshin had high stakes and doesn't play by itself. I know Star Rail is an RPG turn based game but that's no excuse for not making it perfect for example what made the Mario and Luigi games so great is that even though it's a turn based game the stakes are high, even after Mario and Luigi land their turns in even when the enemy strikes you have the option to either counter, dodge, or block an attack which is perfect because it increases the stakes for what an RPG battle should be Hell even Paper Mario and the Super Mario RBG games do the same kind of stuff. I'll give Star Rail credit for amazing ultimate animations but you guys get the point. Having different styles of battle systems is fine but battle systems like this are supposed to be roller coaster ride and challenging which is exactly what Honkai succeeds at they don't let the battles play out themselves, they aren't limited by a specific type of damage on enemies even if the characters your playing as feel out of place against the enemies you still manage to get the job down and deal massive damage on a person, so if you're battle system doesn't have balanced fights in anyway and there's no stakes, it's just going to come of as boring pointless visual noise.
