The towering Kim Enterprises building glistened with black marble and white glass in the vibrant city of Seoul. In the main office, a hushed stillness filled the air as the owner, Kim Seok Kyo, sat on the sofa, leaning against the wall with his eyes closed. The chilly atmosphere hinted at deep contemplation or anticipation.

Her composure was shattered as the solitary phone in the room began to buzz.

"Alright, class, we'll be picking up where we left off in tomorrow's lecture," the teacher announced, closing her book as the bell rang to signal the end of the period.

Jinya closed her subject book and eagerly grabbed another one, a mischievous smile playing on her lips. As her friend Kari approached, she couldn't help but notice Jinya's uplifted mood.

"Jinya, I've noticed that smile plastered on your face since first period. What's so special?" Kari teased.

Jinya glanced at her and replied, "Oh, it's definitely something special."

Squinting, Kari countered with a teasing tone, "Something special or someone special?"

Rolling her eyes, Jinya shot back, "Nice try. Today, my dad's coming to take me out for dinner," she said, beaming.

Perplexed, Kari furrowed her brows. "I've never seen your father here. It's been three months since you transferred, and I've only ever seen your mother."

After a moment of contemplation, Jinya explained, "Actually, he doesn't live with us. I only found out about him after coming here. He doesn't live with my mom, probably due to some past issues. But it's okay now. I have my mom and dad, and I'm alright with that," she concluded with a smile.

catching everyone's attention.

As Jinya diverted her gaze to the newcomer, a teenage boy with a cold, bored expression made his grand entrance and casually seated himself at the back of the room, seemingly indifferent to the curiosity around him.

Jinya glanced back at Kari and remarked sassily, "Looks like a new student just arrived, but literally no one bats an eye at him. When I first came here, all eyes were on me like I was some sort of criminal."

With a frown, Kari rolled her eyes and replied, "Don't worry, he's not a new student. He's an oldie who wasn't here when you transferred. And don't go starting drama with him, you have no idea what he's capable of."

"Alright, enough chatter, let's begin the lecture," announced Mrs. Lee as she entered the classroom. The students promptly rose from their seats in a dramatic show of respect, except for the boy at the back who was engrossed in his phone.

Mrs. Lee gestured for the students to take their seats but couldn't help but cast a stern look at the boy. "Jungkook, you've arrived, but it seems you've forgotten your manners. Don't you know how to greet?" She chided in a no-nonsense tone.

Jungkook shot back with a bored look, "Stop shouting, I can hear you. And why are you acting like I'm deliberately ignoring you for the first time?" he retorted, annoyance evident in his voice, before returning his attention to his phone.

The classroom erupted with laughter as Mrs. Lee shook her head in exasperation .

"I can't believe I have to deal with this from a guy like you," she murmured, catching Jinya's attention as she sat on the first bench.

As the class ended, Jinya couldn't tear her eyes away from Jungkook, who was obliviously engrossed in his phone. When the bell rang for lunch, Kari and Jinya made their way towards the cafeteria, with their friend Chaoyue joining them. As they entered the cafeteria, the cacophony of shouting, pain-filled screams, and yelling filled the air.

"Not again," Chaoyue muttered, visibly annoyed.

Confused, Jinya quizzically asked, "What's going on? Why all the commotion?" As she tried to look up, she witnessed some boys mercilessly beating others.

"What the heck is happening?" Jinya exclaimed. "They're ruthlessly attacking those boys!" She started to move towards the commotion, but Kari grabbed her hand and cautioned, "Stay out of it."

"But why are they fighting?" Jinya persisted, her frown deepening.

"Don't get mixed up with them, Jinya," Kari warned, causing Jinya to scowl in annoyance.

"Then who are they?" Jinya demanded, her tone reflecting her frustration.

In a stern voice, Chaoyue interjected, "I'll tell you, but let's find a place to sit first." After settling down, Jinya impatiently awaited an explanation.

"The boys assaulting those poor boys are the infamous Kim's. They're part of one of the richest families in town, so they think they can control anyone who doesn't follow their orders or says no to them by beating them to a pulp," Chaoyue revealed. "And they don't discriminate; whether you're a girl or boy, if you defy them, they'll make your life miserable."

Jinya swallowed hard as she glanced back at the Kim boys, but quickly turned her gaze forward. Kari looked at her and joked, "Are you scared?" with a teasing tone.

"Of course not," she replied with a stern voice, even though she was.

"Okay guys, let's stop discussing the Kims. You know today my father was coming to pick me up. It was going to be fun, right?"

As Jinya reached her house, a smile played on her lips. However, when she saw Seok kyo talking with someone, his face wearing a serious expression, Jinya bit her lower lip, wondering why he had come so early. She mustered a small smile and approached him slowly.

"Appa, you came! I thought you were going to come late, but you came early. It's okay, don't worry. Give me a second, I'll get ready," she said as she ran inside.

Seok kyo sighed and calmly said, "Wait, Jinya, we need to leave now," which made Jinya stop in her tracks.

"Where, appa?"

"Actually, your mother-- I will tell you. First, let's go." Jinya nodded as she sat with him in the car, which eventually stopped in front of a big hospital. When she looked at Seok kyo, she noticed a calm expression on his face.

As they reached a room, the room was dark. Seok kyo was about to open the door, but Jinya asked, "Appa, please tell me why we are here."

Ignoring her questions, Seok kyo opened the gate. When Jinya looked inside, she saw some doctors, nurses, and a body lying on a hospital bed.

She looked nervously at her father and then at the body. "Appa, tell me who is it, please." She pleaded.

Seok kyo remained silent as he motioned the doctors to remove the cloth from the body. As the cloth was removed, Jinya's eyes fell upon it. Her world seemed to stop for seconds; her mother was lying on the bed, lifeless. Her mother was dead.

"Eomma!" she cried out as she ran toward her mother's body.
