In this industry, laging tinitingnan ang numbers na meron tayo. We tend to associate our worth as a writer 'pag hindi umuusad ang numbers. Reads. Followers. Sales. We think it's always an indication that our writing may be bad. Kaya ganoon na lang tayo mawalan ng gana when we try to persist in order to reach our dreams.
Even the readers, karamihan sa kanila binabase ang pagbabasa nila o pagpili ng next na story to be added on their reading list dahil sa numbers. At ang madalas na effect sa ating mga writer? We think we are less, undeserving to be supported, just because we don't have those numbers. As if our worth is tied to numbers. We might even think na parang numbers are always equal to quality. But do we really have to focus our lense in here? It's beyond our control.
Ang dapat na focus natin ay internal. Numbers are external factors, it doesn't have to be taken personally. At hindi ibig sabihin na wala ka pang numbers or less 'yong numbers mo, hindi mo na matutupad 'yong pangarap mo. Besides, these numbers are fleeting. Passerby. Gigising ka at matutulog ka na naha-hype ka because of your numbers, then isang araw, biglang mawawala. Hindi ka na center of spotlight, which is just okay. Pero kapag nangyari 'to sa 'yo and let's say dependent ka sa numbers, would you accept the fact na hindi laging ikaw ang center ng spotlight? Do you have the inner confidence na ituloy 'yong pagsusulat mo kapag hindi ka na naha-hype? Or the other way around?
We must take our time na i-focus natin 'yong fulfilment natin internally. Huwag natin hayaan na madiktahan 'yong pagsusulat natin dahil sa external factors like numbers. I firmly believe when you have the inner confidence— that unstoppable attitude of expressing and embracing your creativity —and thinking abundantly with the right intention set both in mind and your heart, the numbers will just follow. Kahit anong mangyari, kahit ano pang force ang pumigil sa 'yo, magsusulat at magsusulat ka pa rin kasi wala ka nang ibang gusto kundi magsulat na lang. And as you persist, you will be reminded na oo nga, 'yong dating akala mo na numbers ang magbibigay sa 'yo ng fulfilment ay hindi naman pala. It was just an illusion. You go beyond. Something deeper, outside yourself— embracing your purpose in life.
