Run Away (Piano Rendition) by The Blue Notes

All Too Well 10 Minute Version (Taylor's Version) by Taylor Swift

Author's note: You'll all find out why Ayato is obsessed with Y/N's singing this chapter3 I cried writing this one...

Ayato POV.

I lead her into my chambers, away from the bustling night. The servants of the house are all gathered outside, paying heed to the masters and ladies of the wealthy and influential.

"What have you brought me here for?" She asks softly as we step into my room, the door sliding shut behind us.

"Do you not have any questions? Other than the one you asked before?" I glance at her through the mirror as her eyes wander around the space.

"I do... But, it doesn't really matter anyway," Her fingers drag along the mahogany shelf filled with books. I furrow my brows in confusion, turning back to look at her.

"Awhile ago when those ladies came up to me, I realised something... Tell me, Ayato. What exactly are we?" She turns back to me and her eyes did not even seem to want to look at me.

"What do you mean?" Were the only words that I could speak.

"I mean...! I mean the relationship we have. We're neither a couple yet we act like one even though were friends. Archons forbid, dare I even say we're acquaintances? You push and pull me into your arms like the ocean waves, whispering sweet nothings into my ears, but do you really mean every word and action? Every time I ask you something you reply me something too vague for me to even ask anything, so I can only think that youre playing with my feelings so I beg you, tell me the truth. Not half truths, not half lies. Answer me now, clearly. Because I dont want to be another pawn for you to use like a stupid chess piece in this stupid game of whatever you're playing. The night we met, you didn't tell me your name but I always found it strange that you knew mine. Sure, many Inazumans know me. But if the head of the Tenryou commission isn't even one to bother with people such as I, a commoner, then what excuse do you have? I am absolutely sure that Ayaka has never mentioned me to you before so what do you have to say for yourself?" She confesses, word after word stabbing into my body as if I were some rag doll.

"..." I couldn't utter a single word.

What should I say? What can I say? All the possible answers flood to my mind but none of them seem like she would believe me and I'm reminded again of how I had always put on a mask in front of her unlike in our previous lives. The Yashiro Commissioner, the Head of the Kamisato clan, Kamisato Ayakas older brother, Ittos bro, the kind boss, the nobleman, the mysterious stranger, a husband, a father. All these titles diminish with the very whisper from her pretty lips. The many sides of me suddenly disappears.

Kamisato Ayato.

"Who exactly are you?" A hint of disappointment is present in her once sparkling eyes.

And I remember.

The very moment I got the news that my parents had passed on from a successful assassination. The way the elders looked at me with their venomous eyes, even the closest relative had turned their back onto us siblings. The moment it was decided that this boy who was barely a teen was supposed to lead one of the elite families in the entirety of Inazuma. When I had to sacrifice my childhood for Ayaka without hesitation, juggling between piles of unfamiliar paperwork and hours in my late fathers study that seemed endless.

I didn't even get time to mourn.

I recall the very first time a carefree Oni befriended me without bothering to know who I was, when I selected Thoma to be in-charge of the households matters, when I attended events a child wouldve never been invited to had it not been for my parents death, when I met her on the streets of Inazuma after fruits from her familys store rolled all over my feet and she would apologise profusely before our fingers touched by accident when I tried to help her.
