breath of fresh air

"He brought me home," Javon said, throwing his backpack down to jump onto the couch in search of the remote. Tristan took off his shoes, placing them into the cabinet and then went over the Javon, to remove his shoes and put them in the cabinet between his and Eloise's.

Eloise watched Javon look for the remote and Tristan kept his eyes on her, she finally looked back at him and said, "Why did you do that?" Tristan threw his arm over her and started walking with her, saying, "I don't know, maybe because you didn't come over nor did you call, which really surprises me because I thought our relationship was better than this."

Eloise let out a small laugh, remembering the little I love you and that look he gave her. "I've been busy," Eloise answered with a smile on her face.

He looked at her backpack with the little Yale flag sign on the side and replied, "I can see you have, but now that your breath of fresh air and ray of sunshine is here, what are we going to do?" Eloise's eyebrows furrowed, "What do you mean, what are we going to do? I have to watch Javon."

Tristan stuck his index finger out, waving it side to side, and said, "No," he then jumped onto the couch from the back and got comfortable, "WE have to watch Javon." Eloise stomped over to the other side and said, "Hey, hey, hey, I wasn't prepared to watch two people today." Tristan looked at her and smiled at her annoyed face, saying, "I'll be good, don't worry. We are going to all have fun."

Eloise smiled at the voice crack in his voice at first and started going up the stairs. Tristan looked back from the TV and said, "Wait, where are you going?"

"I'm going to change, I'm going to need to be at least comfortable before I have to make stuff," she replied back, still pressing on at getting up the stairs. Tristan smiled and turned back and Eloise closed the door. She quickly showered and washed her hair, she pulled on a white tank top and gray sweatpants, throwing her curls into a low bun as it dried. She picked up her clothes and hung them inside her walk-in closet, storing them away. She started down the stairs and Tristan whipped his head back, he smiled and then said, "Do you still have my clothes here?"

Eloise got to the bottom of the stairs and started walking towards the couch to sit on the other side of Javon, "Well yeah, why would I remove them?" Tristan rose from the couch and said, "Well, I don't know, but I'm going to change. Try not to follow me, E, even though I know you want to." He winked at her as he went for the stairs and dashed up. Eloise looked down at the couch with a smile creeping onto her face.

Javon side-eyed her and said, "You know, I'm starting to think his jokes to you are something you want." Eloise's focus shot up and she pushed his shoulder playfully and said, "I was thinking about something Berlin told me."

Tristan got to her room and automatically opened the drawer of his clothes, he pulled out a black wifebeater and his gray sweatpants and picked up his uniform to hang it near hers. He started to walk out but stopped as he looked to see a picture of her with Berlin, Imogen, and Daniella, a friend she used to have before the girl eventually moved to Jersey to stay with her father. He sat on her bed and picked the picture up, admiring Eloise's poise smile, then he moved on to her film photographs on her mirror. He looked through each and stopped when he saw himself next to her. In the picture, he was sitting, his back hunched over a little from laughing and his hand placed on his stomach, and her body was curled up with a blanket and heating pads after catching hypothermia from swimming in a lake that was almost ice for a dare. It was last summer but they were in Ithaca and the weather was acting up. You could understand how cold it was from her evident blue lips.

He laughed to himself and placed the photo back. He started out the door again and this time made it out completely without stopping again. He walked down the stairs slowly and placed himself near Eloise.

He sat himself back, and his leg touched Eloise's leg suddenly, and this caused her focus to turn from the TV to her leg where Tristan hit. Her hand remained resting on her leg and Tristan eyed her hand, placing his hand near her fingers. He started letting his fingers slide towards hers until his middle finger was touching her hand. Eloise looked to the side again and back to the TV. Tristan took a breath and lay his hand on hers, letting the tops of her fingers fold to hold her hand. Eloise let her fingers curl slightly to hold onto his, and Tristan smiled at this and let his body relax more. They sat there for a while with Javon watching the TV, and Tristan letting her thumb go over her thumb, tracing imaginary spirals onto her hand.

The phone began to ring.

Eloise looked back at the phone and got up from her comfortable position, letting Tristan's hand drop and Javon's head move from her shoulder.

"Hello?", Eloise answered.

"Hey Ellie, could you tell Javon I'm outside?", Javon's mother, Alessandra asked.

"Yeah, I'll get him to you right now," Eloise said.

She placed the phone back into the port and called for Javon, "Your mom is here J, get your stuff."

She watched him get up slowly, pick up his backpack, and place his shoes on. Eloise walked with him to his mom's car. She hugged him and talked to the mom for a minute or two before returning inside her house.
