"Come on, Levi, say "Papa"."
The little baby giggled happily at his father as he cooed at him, trying to persuade him to say his first word.
Levi lifted his arms to reach out for Aryia's face. Aryia bent down nearer to allow our baby boy's soft small hands and cute little fingers to touch his cheeks.
He couldn't help but laugh, our son was really the most adorable baby.
Levi's giggles intensified when his belly was playfully tickled.
"What're you guys doing in here?" I asked, walking through the porch.
Aryia turned his head slightly at the sight of me taking off Ronnie's leash; having just returned from taking the pithuahua for a walk
"I'm trying to get him to say "Papa"." Aryia told me in between giggles.
I went into the kitchen after removing my shoes, going to make us each a drink of tea.
"Is it really that time already?" I asked as I passed through the main room.
"Maybe. I'm just giving him some encouragement." Aryia chuckled softly and reached out to lift Levi into a sitting position, making sure to support his back in case he fell over.
Levi clapped his hands together happily at his father's attention. "Kyaaa...." He gurgled, saliva dripping from his mouth.
I came back into the living room with a piece of kitchen towel, wiping the baby's mouth dry before he had a chance to smudge his clothes.
"Levi, say "Papa"." Aryia said.
But Levi made no indication that he heard his father, instead he had decided to put Aryia's finger in his mouth.
"Levi..." I pulled Aryia's finger away from the baby's mouth. "That's not very hygienic..." I told him.
Levi's habit of grabbing just about anything that was within arm's reach and subsequently putting it in his mouth had become quite troublesome. I was beginning to fear that he would put dangerous or dirty items into his mouth, I always tried to stop this habit whenever I could.
Once I had put the kitchen towel in the bin, I rejoined my son and boyfriend on the living room couch with our tea, scratching Ronnie behind the ear when he jumped up on the sofa to join us.
"Haven't you had enough to eat?" Aryia asked the baby jokingly while gently stroking Levi's dark hair.
Baby Levi squealed in delight, looking extremely content. He continued to babble words that made no sense to either of us, though it looked and sounded as if he was trying to tell us a story. Besides which, he looked so adorable in his father's arms.
"I have to take a picture of this. Don't move for a minute." I told Aryia as I took my phone out of my pocket.
I knelt in front of my two favorite boys, holding my phone up to take a photo. Aryia turned his body slightly to face the camera and plastered a wide smile on his face whilst Levi was preoccupied with his incoherent story-telling when the shutter went off.
It was the perfect photo.
Just as I was about to take a second picture, Levi's eyes focused on Ronnie and he let out a gleeful cry that without a doubt sounded like "Wah...ni... Wah...ni... Wah...ni... Wahnnie!"
