Chapter Song: Mr. Blue Sky - Electric Light Orchestra

A whimper from the room next door wrenched me from the sleep I'd been enjoying and I groggily rubbed my eyes, picking up my phone and seeing the bright white letters reading 4:03am. 'Right on schedule as always.'
I kicked my legs out from under Aryia's, and unsurprisingly he didn't wake up. Instead, he let out a sound somewhere between a mumble and a snore, his arms going straight to where I had been lying down moments before, before he decided that my pillow was the best substitute. I rolled my eyes in humor before walking into the nursery where Levi's little whines were beginning to turn into louder cries for attention. The whining stopped the second I opened the door to be met with Levi's bright eyes on the other side of the bars of his crib.
"Morning Little Wolfy" I mumbled, my baby beginning to gurgle happily at the sight of me.
He reached his arms out to me, making grabby hands, which I found quite unnecessary since my first matter of business was to pick him up from his crib.
"How's it going?" I asked, sleepily irritated.
Levi's little eyes closed as he cooed and smiled in response to me, clearly putting effort into producing these different sounds which made me a little excited as I was sure that any day now, he would stop saying "Ronnie" and "Kévin", and say something else like "Mama" or "Dada".
Aryia told me that Levi might not say any new words for a while after speaking his first two, but my intuition told me otherwise. I was also sure that I'd seen my boyfriend and his best friend quietly mouthing "Papa" as Aryia fed our son the other night when I was coming back from work.
I laid the babbling baby onto his changing table and put him in a fresh diaper and babygro. What I really wanted to do was put him back to bed and rejoin Aryia, but I knew that would be a vain attempt as Levi was now wide-awake. I'd tried doing it once and the usually calm baby had let out such deafening screams that the whole house had woken up, so we hadn't made another attempt since then – especially after Kévin said how much he enjoyed his beauty sleep.
"You're not gonna be nice to Mommy and go back to sleep, are you?"
A loud squeal accompanied by some drool was my only response. I knew I was biased but Levi was definitely the most beautiful baby I'd ever seen.
His skin was so smooth and unblemished. The brown fuzz atop his head would surely grow to be darker like his father's. The boy's rounded cheeks tempted everyone who saw him to reach out and squeeze him. Everything down to his dimples were Aryia's, but he couldn't take any credit for his nose, or his eyes – the shapes or the color of his irises. They both matched mine. Levi's eyes were a slightly darker shade of blue than my own and even with his pigments turning a little more green recently, it didn't make them any less beautiful.
He began to make a fuss, agitated that my focus was elsewhere. I was tempted to bring him back to bed with me but Aryia and I had talked at length about this.
I continued to walk around Levi's room with him while he continued to speak noisily while babbling gibberish that only he was able to understand.
"Your daddy knows what he's talking about. He's just being a lazy bum. Remember Little Wolfy, your mommy always knows best. Who knows? That's right, mama."
